Have to save that clip for 2012...hope she's nominated. No, I take that back, it would be funny, but I don't want to take the risk that the morons would elect her.

So many dog-turds on the lawn. I try to avoid them all...now I have to choose one to step on?

[edit] Ok, went for Adnan Oktar, because earning this would piss him off, whereas it would just get Coulter off.

The wife just said that if I don't unplug the bathroom sink I'm in big trouble, so I'll have to talk to you later. I think we can both agree that whoever voted for prop 8, it stinks.

Cheers.

I used the U.S. census for african americans in CA then used the word "over" to cover any increase, though this increase is probably not of voting age.

I just read three studies on Mexican-american attitudes towards gays. All agreed it depended on three things: How long the individual has been in the states, whether that person is male (males having more of a negative attitude toward gays), and how often they attend mass. The last being the most significant.

ly_raya

Welcome. I'm glad your family was against prop 8 . I think you said you were in the Bay Area. This may have some affect. I lived in a Mexican-American community in Fresno for a few years and I got a different response toward gays from the friends I met there. Both of our statements are anecdotal of course. But I still stand by my statement that catholics turned out big in favor of this prop. Many hispanics are catholic....

Sorry, no it was actually Steve's reply to you that stated that blacks have a tendency to be homophobic. "... with increased voting from a community which has a tendency to be homophobic."

And no, I do not want to revise my statement. There just are not enough african american voters in CA to pass any propositions. And my statement about mexican-american catholics being against gays is well known, it is part of their culture. Very few mexican american gays will come out of the closet because of this. It is the same in the american muslim community.

Oh, one more thing about the black turnout causing gay marriage ban in CA. (sorry, that statement irked me).

In Arizona, where there are roughly 150,000 blacks, the ban passed with a larger majority than CA. Again, AZ has many conservative voters, including seniors, they also have a large catholic and mormon community. These are your homophobes.

I also do not like the blanket statement that blacks, as a race are generally homophobic. Can I get some statistics on this?

"Prop 8 passed because Obama was on the ballot, causing a huge increase in turnout among black voters, who overwhelmingly were in favor of Prop 8."

This is just plain nonsense. California has just over 2 million african americans, not voters but total population. It has over 12 million hispanics, most of whom are catholics. The black population had very little to do with prop 8 passing.

Thank you for posting this case that the ACLU has brought before the CA Supreme Court. I did not think it was possible to appeal a constitutional amendment but I was wrong. The argument is that prop 8 is not an amendment but a revision to the California Constitution. Brilliant move on the ACLU's part, makes me proud that I'm a member. I hope they are successful or at least get a long term stay on prop 8 . I will be following this closely.

Ps. I know you are probably more bummed about this than anyone here, since you were so active in the "No on 8" campaign. Thanks for all your hard work and don't let the bastards get you down.

My wife and I did not get married for many years because we did not need the state to tell us we were partners in life. Eventually though, situations arose where the benefits of being married, eg. taxes, were too tempting and financially necessary so we did it. I had a choice and others do not. That is not right or just, period.

I think that prop 8 could be deemed unconstitutional by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Unfortunately, there are 5 catholics on the Supreme Court and they are all strong catholics. I think that this is a major problem with our justice system. Scalia is not the type who would set aside his religious beliefs to support human rights. Ain't gonna happen.

I like my presidents to be educated at the best schools. I also prefer them to know something about the law, especially the Constitution. Bush had not a clue about the law, Palin thought she would be in charge of the Senate. Good grief. The guy who signs legislation into law should know what he/she is signing.

Perhaps a Phd in History would be a good degree for a president.

Glad for the umbrella then.

As to your post of 644, there are many presidents that weren't Ivy Leaguers and/or lawyers. The Bush's of course were Yale grads, but not lawyers. Carter went to the Naval Academy with a degree in physics, Reagan went to Eureka College and studied something, then became an actor. LBJ went to some Texas teacher's school and taught school. Eisenhower West Point, general...etc, etc.

Oh, I think Ford went to Yale and got a law degree and Nixon was a lawyer but went to Duke.

"I fully understand how and why America’s black community would overwhelmingly vote for Obama, many or most because he is a black man."

I'm not sure this is true. I think if the Republicans would have run Alan Keyes for President, the blacks would not have supported him even though he is black. African americans vote on issues like everyone else. It just so happens that a black man ran with a platform they could support. I'm sure they chose Obama over Clinton because of his race, but mainly because they saw no real difference in their platforms.

The downside of campaigns:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/weblogs/trail-times/2008/Oct/30/obamas-big-carbon-footprint-1/

These guys report that the planes, buses, and motorcades put 136,680 tons of carbon in the air, although another report stated it was 165,000 tons.

By comparison, the average household of two produces 5.5 tons/year.
