My guess is Martin Luther King Jr. would roll over in his grave if he heard blacks calling each other that. Unbelievable.

Funny you should say that, Al. ;)

EDIT: About 2:20 in.

black wolf, the clip features both Richard Pryor and George Carlin's take on the word nigger. Richard is, sadly, no longer with us.

Comment #186009 by Colwyn Abernathy on May 29, 2008 at 10:56 am

"What if a white person made this same exact speech?" Because a black man is saying it, it's OK and people can laugh at it. If a white person says it, he/she would probably be lynched after about 30 seconds.

Well, Carlin did something similar. Maybe his label of "hippie" or "curmudgeon" or "bitter blue eyed devil" let him get away with saying it. ;)

There was a good article in The Economist last month about how little education is valued in the black community. They did a study and proved that the more educated a black child was, the less popular he was in school and the less friends he had. They actually had quotes from black children who thought it was "cool" to reject school.

"Nothin' make a nigga happier than NOT KNOWIN' the answer to your question. Ask 'em anything any...'What's the capital of Zaire?'
'HA HA! I dunno that shit! Keepin' it REAL!' Yeah, they always keepin' it real, yeah. Real DUMB." -Chris Rock

Ah, hell, here's the whole bit, since it keeps reminding me of it.

EDIT:
Stop listening to rap and go to school. I wish Obama would say that but he's too afraid of losing the precious black vote.

Thankfully, it didn't stop Bill Cosby from making that point, and he got so much hell from the black community for it. I applaud him for it.

There is a problem in African American society and culture. They are not taking care of business for themselves, and expend great energy on blaming others, this example you provide is evidence of that problem extending to all facets of life.

Al:

The only time they ever speak up is when there is an obvious chance to blame the victim of the crime.

Hmm...interesting point. I'd go further and say that it isn't the victim as a person PER SE, but whatever convenient label we can ascribe to them. Example: both a prostitute and a co-ed are women. Since one is a prostitute, she's asking for it, but a co-ed isn't, therefore, we must scream and holler over the injustice of the personal rights violation of the co-ed, but not the hooker, even though the violation is the same. Only the labels are different. I think it's the arbitrary labels we assign to an individual in order to place them in an ascribed group that's the problem.

Being on the left in America used to mean something, defending the rights of others, now it is some mushy bull shit whiners club.

Agreed. Yet they only "whine" when it concerns a group that lies in their interest. (Usually political) Anybody else that won't, as you say, "score points" are ignored. Justice for ALL, not just those we like or can garner support.

You know what's ironic and infuriating? When fellow Muslims murder their own daughters over a teen crush in Basra, or allow young women to burn to death because they're not properly covered, I DON'T HEAR A GODDAMN PEEP OUT OF THESE PEOPLE. The person committing the atrocity is IRRELEVANT. It's the act that's wrong. Islam rationalises honour killing as one's duty. Anybody else think this is batshit feckin' crazy?

No, not really offended. More saddened. That someone would actively call for silencing of American voices TO SELL CARS...is just sad.

"Well, if that is the case, then I say that's tough, this is America folks, it's called free speech. And none of us at Kieffe & Sons Ford are afraid to speak up."

I've never watched an entire episode of The Simpsons.
Nothing would surprise me. Many/most Americans have a really difficult time discerning the difference between TV and reality. Or, maybe I should say that TV is their reality ... even more simple minded than church.

"Go back to bed, America. Your government is in control. Here's American Gladiators, here's 56 channels of it. Go back to bed. You are free...to do as we tell you. You are free...to do as we tell you." -Bill Hicks

Who knew NBC would bring that piece of shit show back? And yet, when I watched it, it was like I was a kid again, seeing the first one. Must...resist...temptation.

189. How Are Humans Unique?

Comment #184442 by Colwyn Abernathy on May 25, 2008 at 9:26 am

Human beings do not like to think of themselves as animals. It is thus with decidedly mixed feelings that we regard the frequent reports that activities once thought to be uniquely human are also performed by other species: chimpanzees who make and use tools, parrots who use language, ants who teach. Is there anything left?

Any other species use sarcasm?

EDIT: SRSLY, I think we're the only species to create something merely for the sake of creating it to exist, and not for some evolutionary purpose: mating rituals, homes, etc. You know, the whole ART thing.

I'd rather see contraception enforced than encourage late terminations.

I'll go with that, Rawhard...but the option should be left with the person carrying around said late termination.

they don't give a shit about life, all they care about is control.

Al's right on the money, it really isn't about the children, it's the choice they care about, as in, they don't want anyone to have one, because, traditionally, women aren't supposed to be capable of doing or being anything but mothers and caretakers, which is bullshit. Both Carlin and Bill Hicks make excellent commentary on this point.

"Here is my actual theory...beyond the huge, hilarious jokes I have. Here's my real theory, though: If you're so pro-life and you're so pro-child, then adopt one that's already here, that's very unwanted and very alone and needs someone to take care of it to get it out of a horrible situation. Okay? People say, "Why don't you do that?" And I say, "Because I hate fucking kids and couldn't care less." Couldn't give a fuck. Don't care at all about abortion. It's your choice, case closed, the end, bottom line. And by the way, that 3 month old kid in your belly is not a fucking human being, okay? It's a bunch of little congregated cells. You're not a human...till you're in my phone book." -Bill Hicks
