My initia responce was to figure no one would choose to go to a dr. that doesnot practic proper proper sterization procedures. After further thought tho I wonder these people donot have the best track record on these matters. Once again this is realy fucked up.

Steve. one or two things. In general oposition to your position, I think It can at laest be arguaed that its posible at least that fewer kids would starve w/in a system thatdoesnot force others to feed those kids, thereby helping more people to have more kids. that is I think a better argument against your safty net than that some would take advantage of it.

If you donot like football, fine your choice, and we all at this site donot like religon, again fine. I, tho, donot see any particular diferenc betwn the potential copyright infringment from any given bar or resteraunt advertizing Superbowl activities and a church doing the same.Fair is fair. We could do better than to pick this as a battle to fight in.,

212. U.S.: 'Demonic' militants sent women to bomb markets in Iraq

Comment #120720 by babrock on February 2, 2008 at 11:33 am

I guess if t women were only like 9 or so, were actualy carying puppies and, like PJG noted, had not died quickly it could have been a lower more despicable act, but that is about it. I imagine the only reason the bomb wasnot bigger was only because the women could not carry more weight, and that it was not nuclear or biological for similar reasons involving ease and practicality rather than any reason remotly resembling morality.

213. Atheism and Violence

Comment #120701 by babrock on February 2, 2008 at 10:46 am

I could have sworn that Id previosly posted my comment but I dont see it. I must not have pushed the submit button hard fast or repeatedly enuf or something. So again, this time in shortened form;If one can stick ones head in the sand regarding how unrelated gods actual existence is to the resulting threatened punishment for evil, then I think that that mite actualy be their (faithheads) strongest case. We all like to think of ourselves as good people, but history and the news show there is no shotage of people treating other peole badly w/o the excuse religon often gives them and fear of punishment often may be the only thing preventing it.

Comment #120655 by babrock on February 2, 2008 at 8:27 am

violence begats violence but sometimes itis the only viable option. And when to tolerate others intolerance is a tough question unfortunatly w/ no beter answer than to decide it on a case by case basis which is almost no answer at all. To my mind tho, it seams resonable to figure that since we are already there we might as well be doing something more than simply letting this go on unopossed and that the petition is a decent enuf of a start.

216. Richard Dawkins on The Big Debate

Comment #119840 by babrock on January 31, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Once again we have some muslim bitching about being persicuted for persicutng almost everyone who differs w/ them, all the while calling themselves tolerant. If only we would see things their way, they could quit trying to kill everyone who differed w/ them. I have heard it said that Hitler wanted peace, peace in a world that he ruled, w/ no jews gypsys,ect.. Richard was trying to nail him on this or at least get him to give the charge a straight answer when the moderater stepped in and changed the subject.

217. Richard Dawkins on The Big Questions

Comment #119838 by babrock on January 31, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Like Gymnopedie, I also thought the worst was the the muslim guy santimoniosly going on about how tuff it is that someone (salmon r. in this case) keeps forcing them to try to kill them by offending their particular imaginary friend. Like " If only my wife/child would stop pissing me off, I could stop beating her.

The plesure one derives from defeating one of these morons in any given pissing contest is too small. It is way too easy for one. Did it sound like Richard felt like he had acomplished anything particularly chalenging. Or more that it was a waste of his time as it is for all of us in that sence. Not in the sence that it doesnot need to be done to make this world more rational. Just that we could all be doing things more valuable. Belive me, if you have found a place where you donot have to deal w/ these dumbasses I'll swap you.

I obviosly donot consciously remember whatever pian it mite have caused me and I donot pay too much atention to other guys wangs. I have never seen Major Leage. From the adds I have seen for it ,it strikes me as a movie filled w/ charactors that would have me prefering to be "deserted on a remote island" rather than w/ them( tho not quite as bad as having Hanible eat my face). Maybe I am wrong & it is filled w/ interesting people doing things I would actually care about but on the chance that I am right would not that screw w/ the results of the experiment.

Also while I can't guaranty this I asume you are an at least somewhat rational person or you wouldnot be here. And for me, at least, a rational life tends to get better as one goes along as one is open to learnig more than one who comes at it asuming most all there is to know is already known.

226. US scientists close to creating artificial life: study

Comment #116005 by babrock on January 25, 2008 at 9:03 am

Absolutely just a judgment call on my part but to my mind the 3 most grave threats humanity faces at present are 1. Environmental degredation 2. The threat from fanatical Islamofacists w/ some weapon of mass destruction and 3 Running out of energy that the world runs on. This guy, Rubin maybe, has a book "Energy Victoty" where he puts forth an idea that seams to deal w/ all 3 that involves transition to biofuels. The bigest problem I could see w/ it all was some arising from growing all this biofuel. Lack of enuf water was what ocered to me as t most likely. It ocered to me that it would not be at all imposible to develope somethig that could grow on salt water. Thank goodness for science

Here is a small idea relating to what MaxD was saying. A case can be made for just about anything;.. as every option is going to have its own set of advantagis & disadvantagis. If you make it a rule to have everyone walk on their hands their shoes will last longer. The key is to my mind simply to provide as much choice as posible w/in reason and let the consumer decide. No one would choose anything as ridiculuos as my hand option but the range of options, that people would pick from and therefor others would provide, tends to be incredible

Off subject somewhat but but in WW2 the allies air campaign caused at least about as much sufferig as meted out by the Germans on us (not including the eastern front) and by the Rusians on the Germans on their march towards Berlin, yet we vilify both and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. And again let me repreat that I am not claiming to have any overall answer to the question of what is to be done given that one finds oneself in a fucked up siuation like that.
