201. Evolution fine but no apology to Darwin: Vatican

Comment #249177 by thewhitepearl on September 17, 2008 at 4:19 pm

I'm reading the article from the link Brian sent us right now.

Perhaps they need to understand what the "god particle" is before they go and make smart ass comments about it. grrr

"Above all, we now realise, that contrary to being a complete waste of space and a descendant of apes, you are actually made in the image of God.

"We realise that although you are still stupid, that is simply because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and that your eyes are blinded and your ears will not hear any contrary view. In short, we now see you are a sinner in need of the saving, life-transforming grace of God in Jesus Christ."

Ummm someone please tell me that this group is indeed a wolf in sheeps clothing and this "apology" was a satire? Surely no real christian group would make an apology that began with "we realise that although you are still stupid"

Apathy

I agree. Fuck off, no one is listening to you, go home and learn to read, then read a book.

Quetz,

I use "succubus" a lot.

For example I might tell one of my good guy friends "I think you should dump the bitch-she's a succubus. She just sucks all the life and fun out of you"

Ok so this guy should have either stayed in the corner with that wet towel or done more research.

He mentions it in his articles and his lectures. If the idea catches on, it can be said to propagate itself, spreading from brain to brain." So, here goes.

Surely he isn't suggesting that he is to be responsible for the "idea propagating itself".

I have quite a lean build, so as a result my opponent often outweighs me. When it comes to self-defence work I fight dirty; I have little choice but to!

I'm with you on that one. I'm about half the height of everyone I know and on the smaller end so if it comes down to self defence-I too have to fight dirty. As you kinda know.

I thought you were all banged up and unable to do anything?

I'm afraid I'm going to require proof of the successful back-flips.

Touche' so very true. I can't do anything right now. Not even a simple ball and change. :( But in the sense that am I know how to do a double back flip-yes. And will be more than willing to post a video, if it intrests you guys that much when I do recover. It's not that difficult. Perhaps if I can fish out some old videos, I can have my brother get them on the laptop.

And they hide their faces because it says "I am not accountable to anyone, I can do what I please". It is designed to strike fear into people.

It's a classic split personality, superhero alter ego example. There is a subconsience "freedom" and "release" that comes from wearing masks and covering up your identity. It allows you to say, act, and behave in ways that wouldn't be the norm. You may very well be that nice and pleasant bus riding partner in the daytime. You would act like any other normal peaceful freedom loving citizen. But as soon as that mask goes on-so goes the switch. You realise that nobody knows who you are-you are no longer you. You are free to act out in whatever fashion that you wish with no constraints and worries about being judged as an individual.

Also, perhaps it is so they can go back to being a "nice Muslim", and can pretend Islam is peaceful

Yup. The next day they are smiling at you, wishing you a good day, and being a "nice, good muslim". Raising your curiosity, and inviting you to their homes-So you can see how "normal" they are.

Before you know it they are trying to convert you.

Oh I see. No Richard re-posted it on the creationism divides royal society thread. I think he meant that the thread had already been taken over by various topics (it was on the third page) and wanted something that had less comments so that everyone could see his post. But that's just what I think.

Ok basically you dont like some types of rude or vagely threatening behaviour. It doesnt seem to me to have anything to do with race.

Uh, well yeah-but sometimes my prejudice seems to single out a particular ethnic background. If that makes sense. I suppose I'm more prejudiced. I'll just come right out and say it-most black people, I don't like and don't like to be around. (there are exceptions) But it doesn't have anything to do with the color of their skin, but more on how most black people act and conduct themselves. Not all- but most. Particularly those from the south. Call it whatever you want.

Diacanu,

Noted.

I retract the use of the word "racist". I used it too lightly. What I really meant was I am extremely prejudiced against some cultures and in most cases includes and singles out those of a particular ethnical background.

233. Sharia courts operating in Britain

Comment #248574 by thewhitepearl on September 16, 2008 at 1:38 pm

What do you mean by Cultural racist

I mean for example when I step outside and see a group of black people with shorts hanging from their asses-I give out a little shriek and skidaddle. But this would also apply to if for some strange reason there was a white guy in the mix.

I mean that for example when I see an old ford driving by with a brown arm sticking out-I can bet that 10 more are shoved in there and try to avoid them at all cost due to the uncomfortable glances and sounds I am going to hear.

I mean that I am and can be "culturally" racist. Or whatever word you want to use.

There are some cultures that I don't like to be around and will make otherwise rude comments towards if provoked. Or think badly about.

I'm sure I could give better examples but these are the ones that are popping out of my head and hopefully you get the gist. This does not necessarily apply to the color of their skin but the way the act, talk, and dress.

234. YouTube Removes Viral Video on Palin's Churches For Inappropriate Content

Comment #248569 by thewhitepearl on September 16, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Paula

But there's still a bit of me that's earnestly hoping that her church isn't part of this madness and that the scenes in this clip were filmed somewhere else. Was there anything in the film that absolutely clinched it? There may well have been - I watched it through a haze of appalled horror and may well have missed a bit that proved beyond doubt that this really was Sarah Palin's church.

I couldn't remember anything in the video that stuck out in my mind that would condemn Wasilla Assembly to the, er shall I say more intense fundamentalist beliefs. I did some investigating on their website, and from what I can tell from comparing pictures to the video-it doesn't appear that it was shot elsewhere. (At least most of it)

The churches mission statement is "To Know Him, and To Make Him Known" and they have a list of their beliefs which are commonly held beliefs of the fundamentalists. Other than the belief in the literal translation of the Bible, the also believe in; the rapture, 1,000 year reign on earth, and that sinners will burn in a lake of fire.

They also released a statement about Sarah Palin which did say that as of 2002 she is not a member of the church but since then has attended conferences and special meetings.

edit

From investigating the website, it doesn't appear that this video was cinched. :(

Well, if Sarah Palin's church is indeed part of this "third wave movement" and she has been attending this church for some two decades-I would think it safe to presume that she really does believe in all this madness and hysteria.

One does not usually stay a member of a church that they have problems with or do not agree with. At least that has always been my experience.

I think most moderate, non-fundamentalist Christians would visit a church like that during such hysteria and never return.

The bit at the end about revival in the churches-this isn't a new thing. Almost all of the churches I grew up in believed in that cockamaney nonsense. Giving the US back to god-and all that jazz.

Apparently Jesus doesn't want to come back until most of the world are Christians, so he can spare as many souls as he can.

It is breathtaking that your intolerance and dogma are so extreme

Intolerance yes. And rightfully so for anyone advocating creationism. Even suggesting it. I noticed the date on his statement-perhaps you overlooked it. It was the 16th of September. Which in case you don't know, is today. So all this shows is backpeddling and trying to save his own ass. Perhaps you should go and read the other four or so articles on the subject and the statements he made there before you go on and on about apologising and intolerance.

Dogma? What dogma? Please reference the so called "dogma" the atheists follow.

That's what I thought.

I don't like this "bars turning into churches" business thats for sure.
I've gone to churches similar to Palins, although I'm going to have to say that that church takes the cake with "cell phone anointings".
Oh and the fire burning/wind gusting revival bit. They all look possessed.

I sometimes wonder if belief like this makes someone mentally ill. Really and truly mentally ill. Multiple Personality Syndrome or something.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa

I haven't seen the entire thread. Just got around to it and was scrolling up and saw this. So without getting the entire tone of this conversation, I'm going to go ahead and comment on just this because I don't like it. Pardon if I take it out of context.

That some people want shariah is their business - would you rather it underground and hidden, away from public scrutiny and hence hidden from the law?

It is their business and needs to stay that way. If they want to follow the Sharia in the privacy of their own homes-fine thats their business. (Unless of course if violates the laws of whatever society they are living in. Then they should be punished accordingly with said societies laws) Sharia does not need to be included in the laws of a non-muslim land. If they want a law system for muslims, well that's just fine and dandy. Move your fucking ass to a muslim society.

It should be worth noting again that Sharia is the totality of religious, political, social, domestic and private life. AND that muslims are not bound by the sharia when traveling or living outside of a muslim society.

EDIT

I repeat; And that muslims are not bound by the sharia when traveling or living outside of a muslim society.

So the very fact that they are trying to weasle it in, is indeed a huge statement.
