Exactly! A bit of language, and perhaps an opposable thumb thrown in for good measure, and voila! Ghost story. Next step religion?

To the puppy playing with it's food:

" Be good eat your squirrel or the Deer that smells wrong will come for you".

So, things entered our lives to great effect. Harming us or helping us. But the only thing we knew this kind of behaviour from was surely other agents - intending to harm or help us

And perhaps from here came the concepts conservative and progressive?

As in;

"Kill it! Kill it!"

As opposed to;

"Scratch it behind the ears... It'll purr."

BTW MPhil, did you see my post awhile back on about my dog seeing a ghost?

au contraire! For alot of them their prayers HAVE been answered.

The way they see it, the anti-christ just got made president, end times are coming and Jesus is on his way.

Unfortunately you are correct. I spoke with someone who considered voteing For Obama "to speed things up". It makes me very very sad. Especially for thier offspring. I'm begining to consider that it is child abuse.

225. Religion: Bound to believe?

Comment #275933 by Hellene on October 31, 2008 at 8:44 pm

A little story...

I moved from the country into the suburbs. With me came a superb Collie. Extraordinary creature. So one evening walk he spies upon a lawn two deer. The dog knows what they are. He has seen them before and made good chase. But something strange. The deer are imobile. And they don't smell right. The dogs fur stands up on end. He whines and looks at me for reassurance. I hold back my laughter. He approaches in fear and, dare I say, horror. Finally I called him off.

Dog had seen a ghost.

Add a bit of cognition, and some language... presto!
Ghost stories, superstition, religion.

I do not comprehend how come such intelligent people like theists are unable to see this truth, in despite of our sciences proving it in every law they establish.

230. Premier debates with Dawkins

Comment #273301 by Hellene on October 28, 2008 at 1:53 pm

Shopping?
Wha?

But I must say that after listening to the "Premier" debate it sounds as if Professor Dawkins had taken his "Hitchens" pills in the morning.

Might I suggest lifting weights to gain some upper body, threat display type musculature. Apparently it's been scientifically proven to work.

Or one could hire "Al Rawandi".
The interviews would be rather short though.

233. Palin: average isn't good enough

Comment #271819 by Hellene on October 26, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Titania,

I would widen that to "Sexualized Aggression". Think of Schwartznegers's "girly man" comment.

234. Palin: average isn't good enough

Comment #271796 by Hellene on October 26, 2008 at 3:18 pm

Titania,

Reducing a mind to a vagina is like reducing a mind to a penis. It is wrong in either direction. And while a fellow can throw on a three piece suit and a tie, thus becoming "formal", men too are judged by their appearance. For instance McCains' suits don't fit him well. This has been noticed and commented on. I had a visiting accountant look me up and down and ask me "Do you really work here?". I work in a "Blue Jean" industry. Fortunately the boss pulled him aside and told him not irritate the talent.

Tatania,

I admit you are right. I have been guilty of having impure thoughts about Republican women. Palin, Bachman, Coulter, etc.
Upon deep introspective contemplation, the only reason I can come up with for this obvious aberration is a subconscious desire to screw a Republican... for once.

EDIT: I'm taking their posters off my wall as we speak. I can change if I try...

You are worth more than the crap that they pay you. I would not be happy if something stupid happened to you.

Seems to me wifey doesn't have to work. So she has the luxury of seeing the world from her "values" tinted glasses. On the other hand hubby bears the weight of financial responsibility for the family. I wonder if she undermines his efforts in other areas as well.

249. [UPDATED] Richard Dawkins on Harun Yahya's Atlas of Creation

Comment #266532 by Hellene on October 19, 2008 at 8:23 am

Fishhook hypothesis.
I've been pondering why fish hooks have been left intact in Hanum Yia Yias' "Atlas Creation". Professor Dawkins points out that some one took the time to remove the backgrounds from lures but left the hook intact. Could someone have left us a message of sorts? Such as "I'm working on this utter bullshit, here is my revenge"? If true, I salute you whoever you may be. And to Hanum Yia Yia: Proof read your own books before you publish... lazy man.
