cheers steve.
i actually found it straight away. Wow comes to mind. I know it's tough but David's weapon is our anger. We should answer his posts and always cage him in the topic. The fluff should not be dealt with. Paula does this admirably. Off topic here i know so apologies for that.

The prissy comment was beautifully handled. Just stick to the point
without the name calling. I just read 10 pages of this stuff and comments like 'How frighfully prissy of you' really made a lot of people wince.

Not to throw fuel on a fire that seemed to go out before i'd fully warmed my hands, but TonyA responded well to evilgenius who did not, as far as i can see, answer some great points. The silence is difficult to trust. Churlish of me i know. But i read every bleedin post of that discussion only to be robbed of a conclusion.

pompous, jealous laden, self absorbed, pernicious, facile, history tweaking, hole ridden bucket of piss. God must be knackered after typing such drivel whilst having to remember to capitalize himself all the time. this will piss off atheists and theists alike.
have a peaceful holiday.

Shit what a graceless interview. Dawkins got interrupted at every turn. Ask a question. Let me answer. Don't run scared all over my words. I'm strong enough to let you finish what you want to say. That is all we ask. tony seemed self absorbed. Very disappointing.

What a beautiful way to end a piece. I get this same beautifully brutal honesty from harris. He says in one interview (and i'm paraphrasing} "i'm trying to make a difference in my usual borish hard headed way". I wish religionists could see this in both of them. The abilty to be self mocking. It is utterly obvious to me that if a religionist gave richard or sam even a morsel of new information or perspective, they would stop in their tracks in front of a live audience and sit and ponder it.

This is so much about the writing. It says, "please mister big newspaper, please employ me". Not one thing in the dawkins book is seriously addressed by this article. It's more about his contempt for dawkins. He actually sounds jealous. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Free from debate. Cosy armchair warrior.

dave. you keep repeating yourself. your not answering the questions stublore is posing. your just ranting. You are right about some stuff. But it's kind of obvious stuff. London was bombed in the blitz. Horrific. dresden was bombed. horrific. English and German soldiers have embraced one another and spoke thoughtfully about this. I'm not really sure what your trying to prove.

o'brien is the kind of guy one feels would sneer or try to correct a person who told him they loved him.
When believers get to heaven are they allowed to fondly remember and discuss loved one's that didn't make it? If so, it's a very warped place. If not, It's a very warped place.
God exists; human idea.
God does not exist; human idea.
God exists outside time and space, convenient human idea.
THe bible is the word of God. GOD is loving and compassionate; incompatable statements.

Randall,
Thank you for your comments.
They seem to me to be more thoughtful. I don't mean that in a patronising way at all. From what you have said, and also what jacob has said, the bible needs to be put aside. Someone said on these forums that they believe in God because they feel him in their heart. This is much more reasonable and beautiful to me. I don't believe. But i would support the right for someone to believe that kind of belief with all my strength, as long as nobody and nothing was hurt in it's name.
The bible is not the word of a compassionate god.
To explain it away as poetry is reckless.
This does not have to be the house you live in. The roof leaks. I don't need to go into the horrors of the bible. dave and jacob have discussed that in detail here.
I think to truly love God, your god, you have to do it from your own heart. The concept of God intrinsically linked with the bible is abhorrent to me. ONe more thing. Murderers, spite ridden people, those who hate GOd would change their tune on seeing the almighty. It would be too much even for them. Faith is called into question here. A chance after death makes faith redundant. I know you are thinking about this but i feel it to be a very important point. thanks again Randall.

randall,
You offer a scenario. God gives us one more chance after we die. This kind of blows everything. We have to be conscious to make the choice. this means we still exist after we die. this means when God asks us to go with him to the promised land, then we'd be nuts to go to the alternative. Who would choose at that point to go to the alternative? That is what is so ridiculous. As for my other point being valid, i can only assume that you don't understand it. And that is being as kind as i can be. In a heaven and hell scenario, heaven would be one of the saddest places to be. For eternity. Because the people that did not believe, people that could be the love of your life, are in another place, A place, by many bible accounts, of unspeakable horror. what is more, any loving parent would swap places with their children. This is earthly love at it's most beautiful. And raw. Some quiet thought is needed here. Not knee jerk bible qouting responses. thanks.

beffudled.
randall did not answer my question. Much bluster. But no answer. Jacob understood and answered the question as honestly as he could and I respect that totally. No wriggling. No semantics. No use of quotes. The bible is worn out after being slogged so many times over the net. Some good stuff in it. Some horrific stuff in it. And the endless interpretations of both. Randall; "You will also find there my mention of a final choice to accept or reject God, after death ". I reject God in life. I die. suddenly God appears and says 'do you still reject me?' All my loved one's staring over his shoulder eagerly wanting me to accept him. I now have a chance to be with loved one's in eternal happiness. What happened to faith?
Jacob, you were heartbroken. but they made their choice. This thought you will harbour for eternity in heaven. It would be easy to give other examples. but this for me is enough. I do not believe any compassionate god would allow it. It is non sensical. Also the choices your juvenile friend made are not the same as the choice that one makes to disbelieve in a proofless god. ALL that said, it was refreshing to hear a direct answer to a direct question. Thankyou.

Randall,
i am not sure what you believe. Do you believe many millions of christians, jews, muslims etc would watch that lift go down whilst smiling at the thought of their ascendancy into heaven? I know many religious people who claim the bible, koran etc to be the word of god. they believe rejection of god's word puts the rejectors into the lift marked down. I don,t know one that will answer my question. I did not expect you to answer. It beggars belief that this is what is suggested in the bible. The very people you are born to, having had no choice of that in the first place, are taken to a different place at the end, just because they dressed differently. If someone can answer this question without
evading it, i'll be happy.

Randall
It isn't my idea. Apparently it isn't the way you would act either. My point is, it is what millions upon millions of religious people believe. I know you stated the criteria. that is plainly obvious Randall. But the point is, could you watch the lift go down? That is my point. If all those millions of people are right, and it is god's will that only those who believed on earth will go to heaven, would you watch that lift go down?

So, judgement day comes. You find yourself in a glass lift marked 'up'. Across from you are your kids in a similar lift marked 'down'. They look across to you, confused. The lifts go slowly to their destinations. firstly, what parents wouldn't swap with their kids given the choice? After all the kids just got it wrong on earth. They were'nt bad kids. Secondly who in their right mind would create the circumstances for such a possibility? This is what millions of people believe. To say that nobody knows, but god, what the criteria for admission will be, really misses the point.

I do not feel satisfied with the fact i did not have a say in my creation. I had no choice in that. To be born to a loving priest that gently passes on God's teachings gives me a much easier path to heaven. To be born to a loving atheist who gently passes on the teachings of darwin takes away the easy ride. It does not make sense.

Jacob,
you seem to miss the point. I will perish. What do you feel about the fact that i did not have a say in my creation? I am put here and i must make a decision. My decision means i perish. Create a thing to watch it perish. did god know that i would perish? Where is the free will in my being created to the specifications of a chess playing god. I could be born in a family of atheists. I could be born to a guy who becomes a priest. where is the weight favoured? It makes no sense. The bible is non sensical. do death bed conversions happen 'just in case'. One more thing. If heaven is only open to those who believe, what if your kids or parents or wife are atheists. It all seems bonkers to me jacob. Could tell me your thoughts on my nature question too?
kind regards

"jesus is the only way for us to reach heaven'. Will somebody tell me why God put me here to play these games. I did not ask to be in this game. Does it really seem dignified to watch this scurrying about on earth?
Are there close calls?
He was bad, but believed. Up he comes. She was good, but did not believe, down she goes.
Is there a point system?
If nature is beautiful as a direct result of God would it be more beautiful if it was just nature without any design but nature's. Randall, if there was proof to say there was no god, would you kill? there are so many loopholes and flaws with it all it becomes vacuous.
I don't believe in God but i still want to do good. I would not kill. Isn't this obvious?
Am i missing something?
