301. Palin: average isn't good enough

You are probably right, but McCain's big line last night was "a steady hand on the tiller". This movie might help him with that..

(I'm sinking to new lows here, going out to play with dog)

Well, after browsing through the various networks, it looks like McCain won the debate...at least according to FOX. The rest of them called it for Obama.

[edit] Did I say Obama? I meant "that one".

So there won't be any confusion:

Collateral damage is the unintentional or incidental injury or damage to persons or objects that would not be lawful military targets in the circumstances ruling at the time.

The incidental part may be part of the planned operation.

Anyone notice how McCain was gasping for air during the debate? He was either thinking of Palin in a swimsuit or about ready to drop dead.

A bit on McCain:

"More is known about Mr. McCain's experience at the United States Naval Academy, where he was a self-described troublemaker and graduated in the bottom 1% of his class. The McCain campaign has declined to release his transcript, saying that his performance at the academy can only be viewed in the context of his larger military career."

I graduated sum cum loud. It doesn't mean I'm smarter than those who didn't, I just applied myself more. Bush was busy "blowin' snow" as Palin would say.

McCain got off lightly in the Keating scandal because he switched from the House to the Senate in the middle of it. The House could no longer censure him because he was no longer a member and the Senate couldn't because the ethic violations were committed while he was in the House. He did get admonished by the Senate for unethical behavior though. His wife, Cyndi, made millions from Keating btw. Not counting all the free vacations and trips on his private jets.

I think McCain (and his wife Cyndi btw) are slimey creatures and I wouldn't vote for him, but that doesn't mean I'd attack his military service. There is enough dirt on him once he got off the POW plane to fill a large book anyway.

Your link in post 261676 made me a little queasy. Attacking McCain's war record and time as a POW is too Karl Rovish for me. What he did before Viet Nam and after is fair game but his military record should be honored. I hate this swift boat nonsense. If an Air Force officer wants to hold a grudge because McCain gave in to torture when he didn't, that's between him and McCain. I wouldn't use it in a political campaign though. He served, he suffered, he was lucky to come back alive.

Comment #260798 by mordacious1 on October 6, 2008 at 3:45 am

It's not the fear of death that most people have a problem with, but the fear of dying. Even believers are scared shitless about having a prolonged painful death. Let's face it, it sucks.

Comment #260789 by mordacious1 on October 6, 2008 at 3:32 am

In 1959, my mother-in-law was pregnant with her 5th child, my wife as it turns out. She was a catholic and checked into a catholic hospital. The doctors said that if she gave birth, there was a 90% chance she would die. They would not give her any options because the church always chose the life of the baby over that of the mother. That would have left my father-in-law with 5 young girls to raise on his own. My wife popped out early and it was touch and go for a long time, but both survived. My mother-in-law quit being a catholic the day she left the hospital. I guess if the bastards try to kill you, you can lose your faith rather quickly.

Comment #260775 by mordacious1 on October 6, 2008 at 3:14 am

Unfortunately, churches are not alone in doing this. There are a lot of cult-like empowerment groups out there that teach that if you think positively and truly believe that you deserve wealth, that it will come to you. Of course, this involves donating money or paying fees to the group. Life is full of predators, the churches are just the best at this after centuries of practice.

I do not see DP changing whatever mind he has. I was pretty much staying out of it, until he started the 'lefties are anti-american' BS. That kind of thinking really irks me. I've known a lot of great lefty "patriots".

I've been in discussions with several people here (including Q. Flux) about how much oil is in Alaska. There is probably around 10.2 billion barrels there that is recoverable, and about 120 billion barrels in the rest of the U.S.

[edit] I've also mentioned that it is more important to keep Venezuela selling us their oil, rather than to China. McCain, as far as I know, has no position on this.

Some people might consider 'where you sit on a bus' a very minor problem compared with some of the greater issues that blacks faced in the U.S. But the civil rights movement chose Rosa Parks' not giving up her seat as a focus point of their fight. Sometimes small issues that everyone deals with on a daily basis are more powerful than bigger issues that are more abstract.

Comment #257669 by mordacious1 on September 30, 2008 at 11:36 pm

How about we elect a president capable of reading more than one science book? And if he is reading that book, he should know enough to put it down if we are under attack. Is this too much to ask?
