The book that inspires awe in me is “The Ancestor’s Tale”. I enjoyed “The God Delusion” but then I was already an atheist, at least in the sense of the ideal-parent type of god. (Though I do think there is more to reality than perhaps we can ever understand; I sometimes think of this as “god” – god of the gaps, I suppose.)
Why not concentrate on spreading the awesome truth rather than attacking the deluded, which simply puts them on the defensive. I think the problem for many people is that it comes down to a choice of which “authorities” to have faith in – religious or scientific. It is important to point out examples of evolution in things that we can all see or experience, such as domesticated animals and plants, and mutating diseases.
