Dear Professor Dawkins,

I was not aware that I could send an e-mail to your wonderful website, and tell my story. But now that I know I could, I would like to share it, if I may. I was born in the Arab Islamic World, in a society that is very adherent to their religion and ideas, and being the brother of a theoretical physicist gave me an insight into Science and Rationality. Even though, it wasn’t easy for him nor me to get any resources, we were able to learn about Science in the wonderful English language and it enabled us to see the real beauty of it.

About 4 years ago, I was able to see the marvellous documentary called ” Atheism; A rough history of Disbelief ” by the wonderful Sir. Jonthann Miller and at the time, I didn’t know any thing about your work or darwin’s – Evolution is not taught in my home country-, but when I watched the interview with you and with Professor Weinberg. Things changed quit a lot, before watching the documentary I left Islam, for obvious moral and scientific reasons, and through your interview I was introduced to Darwin’s Theory of Evolution that had an enormous effect. After learning the arguments against god, at the age of 16 I became an outspoken atheist. Even though, I was threatened with expulsion from my high school, and to be “harmed” by my classmates, I never bowed to their authority.

Then after 2 years I left my home country and I came to the western world, and I read your unparalleled book ” The God Delusion “, and then I didn’t only become a “militant” atheist, but I fell in love with evolution, I think that humanity owns you quite a lot for that wonderful book.

Now, that I became a huge fan, I discovered that my favourite part of Science is Biology – especially Evolutionary Biology -, and I am starting to learn more and more. if I am ever honoured to become an Evolutionary Biologist, I will be more honoured to have been taught – indirectly – by your books and videos.

Thank you so much for illuminating Darwin’s great theory, and for taking me on a reverse road to Damascus.
