Dear Dr Dawkins,
I truly cannot thank you enough for your contributions to Humanity. I was truly raised almost as religously as possible without being raised in total seclusion. The son of 2 missionaries, (my father is now a pastor), everyone in my family is engaged in christian ministry of some kind. I grew up in what has been called ( and I think very truly) the most christian town in Canada. literally everyone I knew grewing up was a christian. and I mean literally. My parents even homeschooled me to ensure my total indoctrination into protestant Christianity. And then, one day, my best friend told me he thought he might be an atheist. I was not sure what to think, but I basically told him I would love him with christian love no matter what. Then he started arguing in sunday school. It really bothered me. He would literally shoot down every argument of every individual in the room. I, (wisely) avoided debating with him at all. He was just to smart. It was a long process, but eventually I decided to research christian apologetics, So that I could honor the faith and beat him in an argument. But then my focus changed.
I just wanted to know the truth. And I looked and I looked and I looked. But I just couldnt find any evidence for my beleif in God. I bitterly realised god doesnt exist. I was the most unwilling of converts. the christian of the christian. indoctrinated, uneducated, and generally fearing of science. it angered me that anyone should fight the idea of god. Then I saw my best freind again ( I moved away during the questioning process) and realised atheists were nice people. gradually I have grown to love science and reason. And then I got a hold of your books. Your books have given me the realisation that there is “grandeur in this view of life” the realisation that life without god is not hopeless as christians assert, but that it is exciting and beautiful. Your books also gave me the courage to come out of the closet and the intellectual guns to fight religion. Now all I want to do is save the world from all superstition and ignorance. Thank you truly Richard Dawkins. You have started an avalanche of logic and reason. We will continue what you began.
Sincerely, Andrew, 15 years old, Alberta, Canada.
