I was never subjected to religion in my early years, even though my father was a Christian. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case in my later teens. I was converted to modern-day Judeo-Christianity, the loving man in the sky at the age of 14. I was so filled with joy, knowing that my tainted existence was now forgiven and I had achieved salvation. However, I always had my doubts (How can religion rule out evolution? Why is there so much suffering in the world? the list go’s on and on). I would ask my fellow Christians these logical questions and always got illogical answers. For example, I thought it was ridiculous for my pastor to bring up the crocoduck argument when I asked about evolution. I decided that if I were to truly figure out these questions I would have to go elsewhere then my church to get non-biased and intelligent answers. So, I started roaming Youtube, looking at your debates, along with Christopher Hitchens and other well-known Atheists. I began to question my beliefs with logic and reason. When I realized that my religious beliefs couldn’t coincide with logic and rationality, I decided it shouldn’t even be bothered with. I do admit, it was quite a frightening transition, because I still clutched onto the fear of eternal damnation. However, with the help of you and people like Christopher Hitchens, I was able to break free from that harmful way of thinking and view religion for what it really is, ignorance and primitive thinking. Now, the thought of a personal God or eternal damnation never crosses my mind, which I must say is a huge relief. I never thought I could enjoy my life as much as I currently am. Now, I don’t have to think of this life as preparation for the next. I can cherish every second of this life, because I know it’s my only one. For that, I thank you, Mr. Richard Dawkins.

Sincerely, Nick F
