Dear Professor Dawkins,
You have raised my consciousness in more ways than I can count and my thanks are innumerable. I was never a staunch believer in the stories and tales of religion, but I never truly questioned religion itself. I am a very open-minded person and a dedicated humanist, but I even had an irk concerning aetheists as they all must be irrational anarchists who have no morals. Boy was I wrong. I am currently a student at Michigan State University and I recently finished a course named “An Introduction to Biblical Literature”. To my teachers' credit, he taught the class in a very objective manner in which his opinions were never expressed. Within the first week of class, I had a consciousness raising experience. Two undeniably different creation stories? Come on, seriously? Obviously, I had not been subjected to much religious teaching at all, minus the holidays of Chanukkah, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashana, Passover, Easter, and Christmas (my father is Catholic and my mother is Jewish). Shortly after this “revelation” of mine, I headed straight to the internet to do some research. Hundreds of YouTube videos, articles, and books later, you are one of the most influential teachers in my life. You have given me the courage to speak my mind about my non-religious belief and I am in your debt, along with others like Dennett, Harris, and Hitchens. Although the mind has many limitations, you have freed mine from the prison, which is religion. There are so many people that are secular believers at most that only need to be exposed to fact and reason to be liberated in the way that I have. I pledge allegiance to the Richard Dawkins, and the United State of Atheism!
Thank you for making a non-believer out of me,
