Until very recently I classed myself as a Theist Pagan Druid, believing in an amoral divine force that could be interacted with via the archetypes of those gods and goddesses that have been believed in by my ancestors.
I hadn't had a good old online set-to with atheists for a long time, mainly because it got very boring trying to get past the fact that most of them are far too used to having to argue with Christians. However recently I had started to argue with them again.
I now think this was because something was tugging at the back of my mind.
A few weeks back I found myself in a bookshop, as I often do, looking for……I didn't know what. Then I saw a copy of “The God Delusion” and next to it “The Dawkins Delusion”. I instantly decided that I would read both, cover to cover, with an open mind.
The result? An instant and awe-inspiring collapse of my remaining theism.
In spite of being a bit heavy on rants (It acts as a kind of uber last chapter to everything Dawkins has written since the Selfish Gene in my view), the book takes apart theism in a way that no one with any doubts will be able to resist.
The “Dawkin's Delusion” is……no I will forgo comment here. I can only conclude it was written for those who have no intention of reading TGD and wish I hadn't wasted my money.
So then .where does this leave me? Well I am definitely still a Druid. Druidry is about practice rather than belief in my view, and I love the practice, which continues to have real meaning for me.
As for my still being a Pagan I'm working on that one (There's no hurry)
