Converts, Wed, Jan 30 2013 #(836)

I was reading through converts corner and was pleased to see that I am not the only former Jehovah's Witness here. Nice to find out about others who have realized “the truth” is not.

One of the things I have noticed in reading the responses to various articles and videos is that is it so entertaining to make fun of the religious. However, being a product of childhood indoctrination into the Witness religion and having married a Witness husband, I can attest that that level of religiousity is not amusing at all. Deeply religious people have great power over their children. For example, my husband does not think it is necessary to save for our daughters college education as he is certain the world will end before she needs to go to college. Likewise building a retirement fund. No need to put money aside for that, the world will end. He is perfectly happy to make barely enough to get by and spend as much time as possible preaching from door to door.

Please be aware that “these people” do not live in a vacuum and can go about their deluded life and effect only fellow believers. More often then not, they have quite a bit of influence around them and can cause “collateral damage” to borrow an unfortunate phrase.

The phrase “the meek shall inherit the Earth” quite frankly sends chills down my back.
