I was raised Catholic and attended religious schools. I knew there were things about religion did not pass the smell test but the very fact that a god did not exist did not dawn on me until much later. I am now 33 and for the past 3 years I have been letting go of the belief in a supernatural daddy. My LDS husband has been more patient than I expected he’d be but I know that this is not easy on him. Notwithstanding the stress on my marriage I know coming out is the right thing to do.
Since coming out I have discovered that my friendships are purer and my relationships with my fellow human beings are deeper. Knowing that this life is the one opportunity that I have to make a difference in the lives of my family and friends is awe-inspiring. What I decide to do in this life will ripple through the lives of my children. Being free to teach them to think for themselves, as Thomas Jefferson said so beautifully to "Question with boldness even the existence of a god;" is a beautiful thing!
I am pleased to say that I count myself as a rational thinker and a secular humanist!
Thank you for all that you are doing for your fellow man,
