I’m an old lady of 60. I had a type of Jesuit education, and went on to study languages, but my family were scientists. Reading The God Delusion was a true liberation for me. I have since found a new spring in my step. I read the book because deep down I wanted to indulge in a type of schadenfreude with a brilliant Darwinist having a go at the ludicrous creationists. The result was even better, I threw off the last shackles of religious doctrines, having read them all; St Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, St Teresa of Avila, St John of the Cross and the whole mistaken lot of them, and was still in a blurr. I still love cathedrals and monasteries … for the architecture, and Bach …for the music! I am free, thanks to Darwin, cleverly served to me in delicious portions by R.Dawkins.
