Hi Richard,

I want to thank you for writing this book because it articulated and clarified many things for me about all the so-called arguments in favor of god. It also opened my eyes to the scorn with which atheists are viewed and the free pass given to religion and religious issues. Most people I know are atheists but won’t admit it. I had been hiding behind the label “agnostic” for years but now I am proud to say I am an atheist. Fortunately I was not raised with the hellfire nonsense. However, my father was an Episcopal priest, so the guilt is still there at being different from my upbringing. My parents were politically liberal, pro-choice, properly appalled by creationists, etc – just the kind of religious people I thought of as benign. After reading your book I can see how they are in a sense enabling the kind of religious folk they despise. I was not one of those unfortunate people needing to be rescued from cult-like religions, so I might not have read your book had not my 17 year old son insisted on it. The reason I am writing to you is to let you know that you are helpful even to those of us who have essentially already been converted but benefit from your support.

Keep up the good work.
Candace
