Dear Dr.Dawkins

I am a woman living in Iran where everywhere we are bombarded by Islamic ideas. Even talking of changing your religion is equal to execution let alone talking of nonexistence of god. I was a believer in god for 28 years (if I include my infancy!) until three months ago, when thanks to your excellent book the God Delusion, I became an atheist. For a few weeks I was very angry of myself to have been so blind as to believe in a god, but now I am very happy to have found the truth at this stage in my life. In Iran many of the celebrated poets talk of god and their love for him, but the only poet who was also a famous scientist, Omar Khayyam, had been an atheist. He lived before Darwin and did not know of evolution. I am ending my email with one of his robaees translated by Fitzgerald:

Some for the Glories of This World; and some
Sigh for the Prophet's Heaven to come;
Ah, take the cash, and let the credit go,
Nor heed the rumble of a distant Drum!

I hope you will continue your good work. Many thanks again.

Yours faithfully,
