…after going to a Roman Catholic Church most Sundays during my youth and going to a Catholic school from kindergarten through the twelfth grade. I strayed from religion long before I was exposed to Dawkins’ thoughts, but was strongly affected by his books The God Delusion, The Selfish Gene, and The Ancestors’ Tale. Perhaps because I feared God or perhaps because I did not examine my own life thoroughly, I had not ever recognized my loss of faith as a standpoint that stood up to scientific scrutiny. Dawkins provided that scrutiny that my family and teachers discouraged, and I was emboldened not only by the solid, logical arguments he builds so masterfully, but by the bravado with which he draws his conclusions. Thank you Richard Dawkins and keep up the good work!
