Omnipotent, omniscient but not as good at engineering as 21st century man , Good, Tue, Jan 29 2013 #(1468)

Dear Richard,

Firstly, thank-you so much for your work. I must confess to only having read your latest two books. The Greatest Show On Earth and The God Delusion (as well as the attempted Christian rebuttal The Dawkins Delusion). For me The Greatest Show On Earth seemed almost to be the most modern edition of Mr Darwin’s own The Origin of Species.

The greatest moment so far for me (and I’m sure the irony was not lost on some of your other readers) was not just the rebuttal of the anti-evolutionists ‘What use is half an eye?’ argument from the God Delusion, but now in your latest work, a complete reversal in which lobby can bring forth this topic argument, by your showing that if it were designed then the mechanics were certainly not the ideas of an omniscient being.

I’m not sure whether it was yourself who converted me away from Christianity or if it might have been Bill Hick’s comedy or possibly the ideas in Douglas Adams novels that I read whilst young (or maybe I was started on the path to enlightenment by a young schoolfriend who refused to bow his head in chapel in the mornings), but it IS you have given me the confidence and the intellectual firepower to no longer idly sit by and bear the religious domination of the masses. Thankyou.

When will the Arabic edition be published?

All the best,

Jim
