I met Richard at a Humanist Conference long ago, danced with him, found him very pleasant, personable, and his talk most interesting.
With regard to The Selfish Gene, I think he is too harsh in his criticism to attract most away from dogmatic religion. I left dogmatic religion when I got out in the world and discovered that my science teacher had skipped evolution. I quit being angry, and became open to “the mystery” when I discovered that consciousness had entered physics through its necessity in collapsing the wave function and thus influencing the appearance of matter.
Now, I am eager for scientists to turn their brilliance to the study of consciousness and make basic discoveries about that mysterious topic. I would love to know what Richard thinks about the double slit experiment as it relates to the conscious observer.
