Dear Mr. Dawkins,
First of all, I would like to thank you for extraordinary work and
struggle to promote the seeking for truth among the, for the most part,
Having read a lot of the letters written by people who obviously had to
suffer from much more severe religious indoctrination than I did, I will
be so humble to keep my letter rather short.
I am a 24 year old student from Germany who has for a long time doubted
the obviously ridiculous presumptions that religion claims, but for a
long time has accepted and respected other peoples “beliefs” as being an
equally valid point of view. As a glowing follower of both philosophy
and science I want wo thank you for putting it as clearly as you did,
that religion is, in fact, a position that one cannot take with an
educated and open mind. Your arguments, as well as the ones of
Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Lawrence Krauss and
others have truly opended my eyes further to the magnificence of nature
and abandoned -in my eyes, and the eyes of some of my friends- the need
to equally respect the disgustingly immoral suggestions of the -in my
case- catholic church.
I have now, thanks to you, found the liberating experience of
comfortability with my atheistic worldview that I envied my believing
fellow human beings for.
Since I was, though being raised catholic, rather free to choose any
belief I wanted, I daresay that my struggle wasn’t the hardest and I
truly hope that you will for a long time keep up your liberating work.
Since I promised to put it rather shortly, it remains to wish you all
the best for the future, may you be blessed with an Abrahamic age ;-).
And at the risk of borrowing your words, thank you very much indeed!
