Dear Mr. Dawkins,
I’m currently reading your book „The God Delusion“, I don’t have done with it yet, but I have to thank you for this great book.
In this book, you ordered many of my thoughts about pros and cons of religion in general, and Christianity in specific, in a wonderful form and order. It revealed to me, that I’m not, as I thought, an agnostic but an atheist.
For the background, I’m a 21 years-old Biosciences student from Germany. My family is Protestant, partly high convinced side by side with more critical persons.
My first step is already some years ago. I saw a reportage about the Indian culture. Some people are showering in cowurin, thinking it would bless them. I think I don’t have to comment that.
As biologist-to-be, I thought I had to be agnostic, because of the “fifty-fifty-chance-thoughts”, and it was hard to free myself from theistic tricks of self-deception. Furthermore I wasn’t able to find the right words just for simple discussions.
Now I was able to make the second step to atheism, because all these thoughts were formed to a completed picture. A summary of things I fought with in past.
Maybe, I’m able now, to convince at least those, who are valuable for me.
Thank you very much!
So long, and thanks for all the fish,
Alex Ross, Frankfurt a.M.
