Dear Dr. Dawkins
I am a retired U.S. Army officer and 5 years into my retirement I decided to come out as an Atheist. I was baptized in the Lutheran Church, went to Lutheran grade school and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. I was married in the Catholic Church and converted to the Catholic religion at the same time. I have attended Catholic Church for the past 17 years and continue to do so to placate my wife even though she is aware of my views. I have tried to fit into the religious landscape all my adult life but it never seemed to fit me. I find the bible boring and uninspiring and after doing some research discovered that man wrote the bible several hundred years after the death of Christ. This evidence was a major turning point in my decision to come out as an Atheist.
Coming out has been the most difficult psychological experiences I have ever endured, to the point I was told (threatened) by family member that if I did not believe I would lose my family. I have stayed true to my convictions and continue to speak for a society driven by reason and logic. I have embraced your web site, Sam Harris and many others that have helped shed light on sound logic, reason and the facts.

Thanks for being an inspiration and inspiring us think for ourselves.

Learning is a beautiful thing.
