Saudi Arabia is insisting the UN removes gay rights from the organisation’s Global Goals, saying it is “counter to Islamic law”.

The protest comes from the Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel Al-Jubeir, who told the UN General Assembly that “mentioning sex in the text, to us, means exactly male and female. Mentioning family means consisting of a married man and woman,” AP reported.

He stated Saudi Arabia has the right not to follow any agenda that runs “counter to Islamic law”.

The Sustainable Development Goals program sets a series of “ambitious targets” for the UN’s 193 member states, related to poverty, equality and ending climate change.

However, overt references to LGBT equality were removed from the final agreement, Pink News reports.

The goals pledge to ensure that “human rights and fundamental freedoms are enjoyed by all, without discrimination on grounds of race, ethnicity, colour, sex, age, language, religion, culture, migration status, political or other opinion, national or social origin, economic situation, birth, disability or other status.”

  • @OP – Saudi Arabia is insisting the UN removes gay rights from the organisation’s Global Goals, saying it is “counter to Islamic law”.

Perhaps it would be more appropriate to remove Saudi Arabia from UN membership, if it is unable or unwilling to subscribe to the human rights requirements for membership.

It would also be appropriate to remove Saudi Arabia as a venue for a UN human rights conference.
Circular thinking and bronze-age preconceptions, have no place in the civilised agenda of rational debates on spelling out human rights!

The goals pledge to ensure that “human rights and fundamental freedoms are enjoyed by all, without discrimination on grounds of race, ethnicity, colour, sex, age, language, religion, culture, migration status, political or other opinion, national or social origin, economic situation, birth, disability or other status.”

I could, unsurprisingly, see how those pledges would be incompatible with Islamic (Sharia) law!, but the UN is not run on Sharia Law, and I very much doubt if other countries are the least bit interested it being run according to Sharia Law!

However, overt references to LGBT equality were removed from the final agreement, Pink News reports.

Ah! The theist semantic shuffles to allow the unfettered use of “interpretation blinkers” by bigots, with fudging of textual contradictions to avoid clarity of goals and objectives!

  • The United Nations was criticized recently for handing Saudi Arabia a key human rights role, despite its record on human rights abuses and freedoms for women, minorities and dissidents.

They have been pushing for this position for some time and pushing for the censorship of religious criticisms. The United Nations again shows it’s irrelevance in the real world by appointing these religious nut bags to any position having to do with human rights. Talk about having the fox guard the hen house!

US authorities have charged a former United Nations General Assembly president with taking bribes from a Chinese billionaire.

New York prosecutors said John Ashe “converted the UN into a platform for profit” as he helped real estate mogul Ng Lap Seng gain government contracts.

Mr Ashe is accused of taking $1.3m, spending the cash on luxury goods.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was “shocked and deeply troubled” by the allegations.

It seems to have branched into other fields, beyond religious nut-bags!

Perhaps the Saudi antics are just “oiling the wheels of power” or greasing the palms of power-brokers!!!

  • Something that a Saudi has said that makes some sense at last… it had to happen eventually…

United States and the United Kingdom have sold out to the most heinous country and most heinous religion. Regressive Leftists are excusing their beastly cruel religion because for some unknowable reason they think a bronze – age religion requires respectful treatment. Obama and Cameron should be ashamed.

  • To all future historians, this present-day era will be called “The Great Regression”…. But all eras have ends. Maybe it’s just about time to collectively put an end to this one ??

    The faster the better.
