Idaho begins review of faith-healing exemption

Dan Sevy will eagerly agree that no one wants to see a child suffer.

Yet as a member of Idaho’s Followers of Christ and a participant of faith healing, Sevy believes that medicine is a product of Satan and should be avoided or face condemnation by God.

“Folks of our persuasion have headed toward the frontiers in the past,” said Sevy. “When civilization approached too close, we moved again but we’re out of frontiers and now we’re going to have to stand up to fight for freedom.”

  • @OP – Sevy believes that medicine is a product of Satan and should be avoided or face condemnation by God.

Perhaps reservations for primitives can be set up in some remote part of the world! – Either that or mental institutions can have specially designed simulated isolation worlds where the delusional can be kept harmlessly out of the way of civilised societies!

  • Good idea Alan. We could set aside the south and midwest and build a wall. Then these people could have their own little fantasy and be free to kill their own children. Just as the bible and jesus wanted.
I would like to see them go the way of the shakers. No sex. Not even for procreation.

Their children have no choice and isolating these delusional people behind closed doors (or walls) will not do any good for those kids that still need help.

That would be true of a “primitives reservation”, (Similar to uncontacted Amazon tribes), but if the second suggestion of a Star-Trek type holosuite was set up in a psychiatric institution, they could have holographic partners and holographic children, until the delusional memes died out along with those inflicted by them!

  • I live in Canada, a fairly civilized country I think. Our sense of morality would not condone lawmakers to create or support such primitive thinking / behaviour. Even our indigenous people quit ritual child abuse hundreds and hundreds of years ago, because they realized it was just wrong! When a person is suffering with a medical condition, especially a child, who puts all their trust in their parent to help them when ‘hurting’, is it acceptable for a Supreme court judge to allow continued suffering based on a parent’s religious ‘belief’? That judge should be removed and disciplined. Why do senior politicians and the ‘lawmakers’ support child abuse in these States when there are Federal laws which punish such crimes? From a more personal perspective, which I think most on this site share, is this whole concept that ‘faith healing’ is based on the literal interpretation of instructions concocted by imaginary people. Lawyers love this stuff!

It seems there are actual “primitives reservations” in some countries where they should be only allowed access to holographic children!

In a Facebook post (in Russian), Archpriest Chaplin expressed “my sympathies for the mufti, and I hope he doesn’t retreat from his position because of the howls and hysterics which will start now”.

“We Orthodox Christians have different traditions – but that never stopped us respecting the traditions of neighbouring peoples,” he wrote.

  • I am pretty sure it was the medical scientists and doctors that worked on the cure for Ebola, whilst the Christian missions were out in Africa doing squat all as the epidemic came into world news.

  • Another form of child abuse is sexual. Not only the inappropriate fondling of their genitals, but the insidious condemnation of sex by parents and church ministers who brain wash children into thinking sex is totally evil and satanic. This of course includes priests that attempt to fulfill their own desires by fondling small boys and at the same time preaching how sexual pleasure is the work of the devil and one should feel guilty about those feelings.

Just what kind of message is our Christianized society sending to children about a very normal and wonderful aspect of being human?
