How decades of divorce helped erode religion

Two widely recognized trends in American society might have something to do with each other.

Divorce rates climbed to the highest levels ever in the 1980s, when about half of all marriages ended in divorce.

And in the present day, Americans are rapidly becoming less religious. Since 1972, the share of Americans who say they do not adhere to any particular religion has increased from 5 percent of the population to 25 percent.

  • @OP – Divorce rates climbed to the highest levels ever in the 1980s, when about half of all marriages ended in divorce.

The imposition of religious “moral” views about entering into life-long marriage partnership contracts, as a blind leap of faith based on “purity” and inexperience, is very likely to be a key element in high divorce rates.

Modern couples who get over the initial blinding effects of infatuation, and separate BEFORE being trapped in legal marriage partnerships, don’t need divorce lawyers or the protracted fault-finding disputes which the religious obstructionists had built into earlier divorce legislation.

The persistent interference and obstruction of separations of incompatible couples, by the religious, are probably contributions to the recognition of the unhelpful nature of following dogmas.

Advocating a blind-leap into a locked-in marriage, and collective organised opposition to divorce for those in failed marriages, must do much for discrediting the religious organisations who engage in such activities.

  • Religion’s number one goal: production of as many mind slaves as possible.

The plan: force heterosexual young adults into a legally binding relationship and install massive guilt memes that kick in with the realization that they are trapped in an unhappy, restrictive existence. High pressure them into reproducing as many new adherents and make it as fast as possible.

Virginity, no premarital sex, no masturbation. You want to have sex? Sign here on the dotted line and then you’ll have permission from the celestial dictator to do so in a very limited way. Step outside the lines and you’ll burn in hell for all eternity

No birth control, no abortion. You will raise every single embryo that you create, whether you want to or not and whether you can afford it or not and even if the birth of additional children threaten the well being of the ones that already exist. The judgements of parents having to do with the optimal family size are completely irrelevant. Even if this plan, on a very wide scale threatens to plunge our species into a Malthusian doomsday, meh, God is all knowing. He won’t let anything bad happen to us. Let the other religions limit their populations into an extinction event.

The self-serving nature of the goal and plan is glaring. The cruelty of it all.
