ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An antiterrorism court in Pakistan has sentenced a Shiite man to death for committing blasphemy in posts on social media. The man, Taimoor Raza, 30, was found guilty of making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad, his wives and others on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Mr. Raza was sentenced to death on Saturday by Judge Bashir Ahmed in Punjab Province. It was the first time anyone has been given the death penalty for blasphemy on social media in Pakistan. Mr. Raza can appeal the sentence.

Blasphemy remains a highly contentious issue in Pakistan, where mere allegations of the offense can lead to violence and killings by vigilante mobs. Critics contend that the country’s blasphemy law has been used to settle personal disputes and has worsened interfaith relations.

OOOooh- That must have “terrorised” a few god-delusions, in those besotted with “the religion of peace”!

    on Facebook and WhatsApp.

How murderous! Next bloggers will be posting explosive derogatory comments on Twitter about the mayor of London and “So called US judges”! 🙂

  • Of course if I talk about this to any of my left wing mates, this is a cultural issue and has nothing to do with Islam.

Funny that a court set up to prosecute terrorists thinks that merely saying things on a webpage is equivalent to actually killing people. The religious are so tolerant.

The whole problem with magical thinking is this is exactly what they think. If you believe that this man is endangering their eternal souls. Having read the Quran their version of hell is far nastier (or at least more specified in the descriptions of what hell will be like) than the Christian version. So if you literally believe this then a suicide bomber blowing themsleves up killing your child causes them the briefest moment of pain followed by the rapture of all those comfy sofas, rivers of milk etc. But an atheist who points out true things in a holy book will cause doubt and literally cause an infinite torture session. Given that belief then this punishment is actually logical.

The religious never do the first test, does my faith have any basis in reality?
