NASHVILLE — A nationwide coalition of more than 150 conservative Christian leaders signed a statement, released Tuesday, affirming their beliefs on human sexuality, including that marriage is between one man and one woman and approval of “homosexual immorality” is sinful.

The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood’s list of 14 beliefs, referred to as the Nashville Statement, is a response to an increasingly post-Christian, Western culture that thinks it can change God’s design for humans, according to the statement.

“Our true identity, as male and female persons, is given by God. It is not only foolish, but hopeless, to try to make ourselves what God did not create us to be,” the statement from the coalition members reads.

The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood convened a meeting of evangelical leaders, pastors and scholars Friday at the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission’s annual conference in Nashville. The coalition discussed and endorsed the statement.

  1. @OP – “Our true identity, as male and female persons, is given by God.
It is not only foolish, but hopeless, to try to make ourselves
what God did not create us to be,”
the statement from the coalition members reads.

    Or when corrected:-

“Our trooo delusional image, as exclusively male and female persons, is given by our God-delusions.
It is not only foolish, but ignorant, anti-social, and scientifically illiterate, to try to make our physical selves what our God-delusions fancifully created their delusional image of us to be,” the statement from the coalition members should have read.

They are probably selling those opaque “Biblical manHOODS and womanHOODS” to wear over their heads, so as to keep out that secular education about the real world, which so badly erodes bronze age antiquated “knowledge”, derived by faith-thinking and Bible bashing! ! 🙂

They don’t seem to mention TransgenderHOODS!
Perhaps there are no evangelical buyers for those! 🙂

I don’t disagree with the thrust of your post, but for one detail, that of it being a bronze age knowledge.

In Genesis 4:22, Zillah is named as an instructor in “brass and iron”, so it seems that Genesis was written later than most believe, and it makes it even worse that such ignorance was invented at a later time when humans were designing and erecting great structures and developing more advanced technology.

  4. “Our true identity, as male and female persons, is given by God.”
Unprovable statement regarding a fallacious concept of true identity given by a fictitious actor derived from within a loose collection of rewritten fable story books. Can’t get a first statement any less meaningful and more nonsensical.

In Genesis 4:22, Zillah is named as an instructor in “brass and iron”, so it seems that Genesis was written later than most believe,

The ancient Egyptians by the time of Tutankhamun, used stainless steel made from meteorites found in the desert, as iron gradually replaced bronze – at least in the hands of the elite of advanced cultures, – but the Canaanite herdsmen were still in the bronze-age.

and it makes it even worse that such ignorance was invented at a later time when humans were designing and erecting great structures and developing more advanced technology.

I think the ignorance came from the backwardness of the local herdsman culture, rather than a later date!

If we look at the history of evolution of the Jewish god from the Canaanite pantheon of gods, it is evident that claims of Genesis as a beginning, represent the beginning of particular sects, rather than the beginnings of anything else!

The original leader of the gods is El the husband of the goddess Asherah! One scholarly position is that the identification of Yahweh with Ēl is late, that Yahweh was earlier thought of as only one of many gods, and not normally identified with Ēl. Another is that in much of the Hebrew Bible the name El is an alternate name for Yahweh

It is also a statement of profound ignorance of biology and a contradiction of observable evidence! – As was discussed on this RDFS site recently!
It also illustrates an utter lack of willingness or capability to seek and study, readily available information instead of making fools of themselves in public statements!

Intersex people are born with any of several variations in sex characteristics including chromosomes, gonads, sex hormones, or genitals that, according to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, “do not fit the typical definitions for male or female bodies”.[1][2]
Such variations may involve genital ambiguity, and combinations of chromosomal genotype and sexual phenotype other than XY-male and XX-female.-(wikipedia)

Australia’s highest court has begun hearing legal challenges against a national vote on same-sex marriage.

The government plans to hold a non-binding postal survey from next week to gauge support for changing Australia’s law to allow same-sex marriage.

PM Malcolm Turnbull has said the vote could lead to the tabling of a bill in parliament later this year.

Intense campaigning has already begun, but the survey will not go ahead if the legal challenges are successful.

Two separate challenges by same-sex marriage advocates will be heard in the High Court of Australia on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Legal experts believe the court will rule on the matter quickly because the government is planning to mail out surveys from 12 September.

The vote has drawn controversy over its A$122m (£75m; $97m) cost and fears that it will prompt hate-filled campaigns.
Many same-sex marriage supporters want parliament alone to debate changing the law.

The plaintiffs include two sitting politicians, a lesbian mother and two same-sex marriage lobby groups.

“Telling one group of people that their rights have to be decided by a public vote sends a terrible message,” said Anna Brown, a lawyer involved in one challenge.

It comes back to the issue of referenda, consulting large numbers of the ignorant and bigoted on matters of fact and matters requiring expert analysis!
