Man Kills Eight People in NY Terror Attack While Shouting “Allahu Akbar”

Nov 1, 2017

By David G. McAfee

Earlier today, Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old originally from Uzbekistan but with a green card to legally stay in the United States, drove a rental truck down a popular bike path near the World Trade Center and killed eight people. He also shouted, “Allahu Akbar,” according to local reports.

New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio declared the attack “an act of terror,” according to the New York Post.

“A particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians, aimed at innocent people going about their lives.”

[Saipov] was shot by a cop after getting out of his car at Chambers and West streets with two realistic-looking guns while screaming “Allahu Akbar” — Arabic for God is good, police sources said.

Fox News also reported that the suspect had handwritten notes in his vehicle “pledging his loyalty to the Islamic State terror network.”

Unfortunately for Trump, Uzbekistan was never on his list of countries from which people would be banned from entering the country, and none of his vetting procedures would have prevented this man from lawfully entering the United States (as he did).

Of course it wasn’t on his list! – It has very polluting high-sulphur crude oil – and Russian investment in developing its oil industry!

Five friends from Argentina were among those killed in a truck attack in New York on Tuesday.

The deaths of the five Argentines were confirmed by the country’s foreign ministry. They were part of a group of 10 friends in New York to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their graduation from a polytechnic college in the central city of Rosario, Argentine media said.

A Belgian national was killed and three others injured, Belgium’s foreign minister said.

Two other victims have not yet been identified.

The other two fatalities MIGHT have been Americans, but without bothering about facts and working from his nationalist preconceptions, Trump offered condolences to the Argentine and Belgian victims assuming they were Americans.

“My thoughts, condolences and prayers to the victims and families of the New York City terrorist attack. God and your country are with you!”

Obviously, he learned NOTHING about doing his homework on sensitive issues, from his clumsy previous attempt at “condolences” to the widow of a US soldier, or “THE NEED TO ENGAGE BRAIN, BEFORE OPENING MOUTH”!

Another – Saudi-led air strike ‘kills 26 at Saada market’ – probably using weapons supplied in one of those “great deals” with the USA!

A suspected Saudi-led coalition air strike has killed at least 26 people in rebel-held northern Yemen, medics and local officials say.

Warplanes are reported to have bombed a hotel and a busy market in the Sahar district of Saada province.

Rebel-controlled media said the area was crowded with civilians at the time.

The rebel-controlled Saba news agency said the hotel and market in Sahar were crowded with workers and stall owners when the area was hit early on Wednesday.

The blast left a crater, levelled the hotel and reduced the stalls to heaps of metal.

Medics told the Reuters news agency that at least 26 people were killed, while AFP cited rebel health authorities as putting the death toll at 29.

One photograph showed the charred bodies of at least 15 male victims laid on plastic sheets in the courtyard of the local hospital’s mortuary.

Another featured a man pulling the body of a boy from a wrecked building.

Last month, the Saudi-led coalition was included on a United Nations list of parties that kill and maim children in armed conflict.

The text said the coalition’s actions resulted in 683 child casualties during 2016, and accused it of carrying out 38 attacks on schools and hospitals.

. . . But those Saudis are the civilised nice guys with oil money who do “great deals”! 🙂

The main suspect in the New York truck rampage that killed eight people on Tuesday has told investigators he began planning the attack a year ago.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29, said he intended to kill as many people as possible and “felt good” about the Halloween attack.

The Uzbek immigrant, who faces federal terrorism charges, says he was inspired by so-called Islamic State. He was shot and injured by police at the scene.

US President Donald Trump tweeted that he should receive the death penalty.

The charges filed against Mr Saipov are federal, which means the government can override New York state’s ban on capital punishment.

It also means that a defence lawyer can legitimately claim his client cannot have a fair trial, because the president’s big mouth has prejudiced the case!

According to federal court papers, he [Saipov] said:

He was inspired by 90 graphic and violent propaganda videos found on his phone – in particular, one in which IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi asks what Muslims are doing to avenge deaths in Iraq.

Which is a core issue in the international spread of support for ISIS and revenge for the carnage perpetrated by western forces and western armed forces!

Mr Saipov was charged with one count of providing material support and resources to IS and another count of violence and destruction of motor vehicles.

New York Police’s Deputy Commissioner John Miller said the suspect appeared “to have followed almost exactly to a ‘T'” IS instructions on how to carry out such an attack.

The FBI says they have located a second Uzbek man, 32-year-old Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, who was wanted for questioning in connection with the attack.

Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio also suggested New York’s strict gun control laws had ensured that high-powered weapons could not get into the hands of terrorists.

Which is probably why Saipov used a vehicle, only had imitation guns, and fewer people were killed than in the Las Vegas attack!

VICTIMS : – The men – all aged 48 or 49 – were named as Hernán Diego Mendoza, Diego Enrique Angelini, Alejandro Damián Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernán Ferrucci.

Belgian officials said Anne-Laure Decadt, a 31-year-old from Staden in Flanders, was also killed. Three Belgians were wounded.

Two other victims, both Americans, have been identified as Darren Drake, 32, and Nicholas Cleves, 23.

So the majority of victims were foreign visitors or immigrants!

Three people have died after a shooting in a supermarket in suburban Colorado.

A gunman “nonchalantly” walked into a Walmart supermarket and opened fire, killing three, police say.

Two men died at the scene of the shooting and a wounded woman was taken to a hospital where she died.

Police say that the gunman “randomly” opened fire, before fleeing in a red four-door hatchback. He is still at large and police are trying to identify him with video footage.

The shooting occurred shortly after 18:00 local time on Wednesday (midnight GMT) in a suburban Walmart supermarket in Thornton, 10 miles (16km) north-east of the state capital of Denver.

Thornton Police Department spokesman Victor Aliva said there was no indication as to motive at this stage.

“We can’t rule anything out,” he said. “What we have determined is that it is random as of right now,” Mr Aliva said, according to Reuters news agency.

  • Barely a peep out of Trump when a white man with a gun kills 58 in Las Vegas but three days of twitter rant, Guantanamo, Death Penalty when a brown man with a truck kills 8 in NY. Of course white people are real Americans and guns are god’s own way of killing people whereas brown people are terrorists and using a truck is so infra dig.

It’s “not the time” to talk about gun control immediately after a massive gun serial killing but then it’s not the time to talk about it at any other time either. It’s exactly the right time to talk about Muslim control immediately after a much smaller incident though. A cynical person might think that Trump’s base love guns, love white people but hate brown or black ones.

Of course in states where guns are readily available!

A gunman opened fire at a church in Texas during Sunday services, resulting in multiple reported casualties.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in Wilson County.

Local ABC affiliate KSAT 12 reported the gunman entered the church at around 11:30 local time and began shooting.

Police told the outlet there were “multiple victims” and the gunman had been killed in the aftermath. The number of casualties is not yet clear.

More than 20 people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at a church during Sunday services, police say.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small town in Wilson County, Texas.

The gunman, who is reported to have been killed in the aftermath, entered the church and opened fire at around 11:30 local time (17:30 GMT).

Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr the gunman fled the scene in a vehicle before being killed.

The gunman died after a brief car chase into nearby Guadalupe County slightly to the north, a Sherriff’s Office deputy from that county told CNN.

But it is not clear if he was killed by police or killed himself, the spokesman said.

One witness, Carrie Matula, told NBC News: “We heard semi-automatic gunfire… we’re only about 50 yards away from this church.”

“This is a very small community, so everyone was very curious as to what was going on.”

The San Antonio FBI branch said its agents had been deployed, and there was no indication of the gunman’s motive.

The FBI also said that while only one shooter was reported, it was looking into other possibilities.

A number of helicopters have arrived to transport the wounded, KSAT 12 reporter Max Massey said.

Texas governor Greg Abbott said: “Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response.”

President Donald Trump, on a tour of Asia, tweeted he was “monitoring the situation from Japan”.

The shooting comes just a month after a gunman in Las Vegas opened fire on an outdoor music festival, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds.

  • I see the US has wild-west style gun-fights on the streets – thanks to the NRA. gun lobby – and a lack of restrictions on the purchase of guns by unstable individuals!

At least 26 people have been killed and 20 others wounded after a gunman opened fire at a Texas church during a Sunday service.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small town in Wilson County.
The victims’ ages ranged from five to 72.

The suspected gunman was later found dead in his vehicle some miles away.

Police identified him only as a “young, white male” but US media named him as Devin Patrick Kelley, 26.

Kelley is reported to have been discharged from the US air force in 2014 following a court martial for assaulting his wife and child.

That name would suggest that he is of Irish immigrant descent, rather than Hispanic, Middle Eastern, or Asian!

Texas Department of Public Safety regional director Freeman Martin said the attacker, dressed all in black and wearing a bulletproof vest, opened fire with a Ruger assault rifle outside the church at around 11:30 local time (17:30 GMT) and then went inside.

As the gunman left the church, a local citizen grabbed his own rifle and began shooting at the suspect, who then dropped his weapon and fled in a vehicle.

The citizen pursued the suspect, who eventually drove off the road and crashed his car at the Guadalupe County line.

Police found the man dead in his car but it is unclear if he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or from injuries received when fired on by the local citizen. The car contained several weapons.

One man has told how he chased the gunman after seeing “two men exchanging gunfire” outside the church. Speaking to local TV station, Johnnie Langendorff said a “gentleman came and said we need to pursue him. And that’s what I did, I just acted”.

Mr Langendorff said the pair were driving at speeds of up to 95mph (153km/h) until the gunman lost control of his car and crashed.

The First Baptist Church’s pastor, Frank Pomeroy, told ABC News his 14-year-old daughter, Annabelle, was among those killed.

At least 10 victims, including four children, were being treated at the University Health System in nearby San Antonio, the hospital said in a tweet.

President Donald Trump, on a tour of Asia, said the gunman was “a very deranged individual” and denied that guns were to blame for the shooting.

“We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, but this isn’t a guns situation,” he said.

Yep! a whole load of mental health problems! – Especially in the White-House at present!

  • I find it interesting from an intellectual point of view how disinterested I am by these shootings. I was extremely affected by the concert bombing in Manchester, the Grenfell Tower fire, by the terrorist truck attack in France but these shootings strike me as self inflicted wounds and don’t really affect me emotionally at all. Whining about them is a bit like a long term smoker whining about getting lung cancer. The Republicans in thrall to the NRA are never going to do a damn thing about gun availability so those are always going to be the weapon of choice for mass killings over there. I know the majority of the electorate would like reform but they still don’t seem to have cottoned on to the fact that Republicans don’t actually represent most of those who elect them.

Republicans get voted in by the common people but them immediately try and take away their healthcare, raise their taxes to give breaks to the mega rich, remove their environmental protections on air and water, kill science research, destroy education and of course it’s never ever the right time to talk about gun control.

You reap what you sow. If people want politicians who actually care for them in even the slightest regard then stop voting for these sub-humans. Otherwise, if you want to continue shooting yourselves in the foot, literally and figuratively, then don’t whine about it to me. Talk to the hand cos the face ain’t listening.

Texas church gunman Devin Patrick Kelley was armed with three guns and had argued with his mother-in-law before the rampage, officials say.

The attack on the small church outside San Antonio during Sunday services left 26 people dead and 20 injured.

Kelley called his father after he was shot by an armed bystander and said he did not think he would survive.

He was not legally permitted to own the weapons, which included a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns.

Nevertheless, he seems to have acquired three guns including a semi-automatic weapons anyway!

Freeman Martin, the regional director for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told reporters it appeared that Kelley died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after first being shot by a “Good Samaritan”.

“This was not racially motivated, it wasn’t over religious beliefs,” Mr Martin said.

“There was a domestic situation going on with the family and in-laws,” he said, adding that the mother-in-law had received threatening text messages from Kelley in recent days.

Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt said that the family members had not been present at the time of attack.

So building walls and Trump’s travel bans, are totally irrelevant to this type of situation! It’s a GUN problem!

Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 after he was accused of assault against his wife and child. He was sentenced to 12 months confinement.

He received a “bad conduct” discharge two years later, according to Ann Stefanek, a US Air Force spokeswoman.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said on Monday: “It’s clear this is a person who had violent tendencies, who had some challenges, and someone who was a powder keg, seeming waiting to go off.”

Mr Abbott added that the attacker should not legally have been allowed to own a firearm, after having been denied a gun owner’s permit by the state.

It said it was now – together with the Department of Defense – investigating the handling of Kelley’s criminal records.

An Indian citizen has been jailed for 27 years in the US for sending funds to al-Qaeda and plotting to kill a judge.

Yahya Farooq Mohammad, 39, was awaiting trial on charges of sending money to the Islamist militant network when he offered an inmate $15,000 (£11,000) to murder the judge due to hear his case.

The inmate introduced him to a man who was in fact an undercover FBI agent.

So it was good intelligence work – not walls or travel bans, which caught this terrorist supporter of a native born American terrorist!
India is not on Trump’s Travel-Ban list!

Mohammad, who lives in Ohio, has admitted helping to send funds to US-born al-Qaeda leader, Anwar Al-Awlaki.

“He threatened the safety of our citizens, a judge and the independent judiciary. Now he is being held accountable,” said US Attorney Justin Herdman.

Three other men, including Mohammad’s brother, are pleading not guilty to sending money to al-Qaeda and are awaiting trial.

The four men were arrested in September 2015 and charged with sending $22,000 (£17,000) to the cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki, a leader of Yemen-based al-Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Awlaki was later killed in a drone strike.

Yahya Farooq Mohammad pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to provide and conceal material support or resources to terrorists and one count of solicitation to commit a crime of violence.

He came to the US in 2002 to study at Ohio State University and married a US citizen in 2008.

  • In the 2016 election cycle gun lobbies donated money to over half the 435 members of the House of Representatives. See if you can guess what the lucky recipients mainly had in common. Nope? Too tricky? Well Republican members received a total of $5.9 million and a couple of Dems received a total of $106,000.

The biggest recipient in 2016, and also in total over recent years, is Paul Ryan who decides which legislation even makes it to the floor of the House. If Mr Ryan allows any legislation trying to curtail gun rights to get as far as a vote then he can kiss those donations goodbye in future.

A mass shooting is defined as one in which more than four people get shot and on that definition the USA has one every single day. Only the worst ever make the news though. However it is very likely that even if one of these 20 plus people ones happened every single day it still wouldn’t make a scrap of difference to any anti-gun legislation making it past a Republican House full of members bought and paid for by the NRA.

Legislation in most countries is decided by common need, logic, science etc but in the USA it’s decided by religion, lobbyists and primarily by money…donations from big groups like the NRA and from wealthy businessmen like the Cock Brothers (phonetic spelling) and from big pharma, the fossil fuel industry, Wall St etc.

This “Swamp” of corruption which most people understand is at the root of what is wrong with American politics is what Hillary was perceived to be part of and which Trump the outsider promised to drain, and indeed he did. He drained the existing swamp straight into a much bigger one of his own creating and then took up position croaking away right in the centre of it like the ugliest orange bullfrog on the block. Of course no one could have seen this coming from someone as honest and truthful as Trump so it’s been a big shock to those who voted for him.

So now instead of just a few bits of bad legislation making it through like with previous presidents we have every bit of legislation designed to benefit Trump himself and people like him. Healthcare legislation designed to take away healthcare from poor people, tax legislation designed to take money from the middle class and give it to the rich. In fact the “pass-through” provisions and estate tax repeal in the proposed tax bill seem to be tailored specifically for the way Trump has his real estate businesses and finances organised. No one else benefits so much from the proposed bill as very rich people who coincidentally make their money from real estate.

Every Republican president from Reagan onwards has preached about Democrat’s lack of fiscal responsibility before they got into power and then just blown the National Debt out of the water as soon as they got into office by increasing military spending and giving tax cuts to the rich with little concern for balancing any budgets. Trump isn’t even paying lip service to balancing budgets and clearly has no concern for squandering money on golfing trips and private flights for his cronies as long as he personally is ok.

I think Trump’s lack of concern for anyone but himself was summed up for me a year or so ago by a story about him doing a photoshoot for a magazine. They put him in an expensive cashmere sweater, took their pics but then he refused to let them take the sweater off over his head because it would ruffle his fake combover so they had to get scissors and cut it off him up the back. That’s the sort of person you can really grow to hate with a vengeance, not that there aren’t plenty of other reasons.

US President Donald Trump has said that “hundreds more” would have died in a Texas church mass shooting if US gun laws were more stringent.

He told reporters in Seoul that such measures would have “made no difference” in Sunday’s attack, which left 26 people dead and 20 injured.

Gunman Devin Patrick Kelley was found dead in his car after he fled the scene and was chased by armed bystanders.

The US Air Force said he should have been legally barred from owning guns.

Mr Trump was asked during a visit in Seoul on Tuesday if his call for “extreme vetting” of immigrants should also apply to Americans who want to purchase a gun.

“If you did what you’re suggesting, there would have been no difference three days ago.” he said, referring to the attack, during a joint press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The president suggested that armed bystander Stephen Willeford, who shot the gunman with his privately owned weapon, may not have been able to “neutralise” Kelley if stricter gun laws had been in place.

“You might not have had that very brave person who happened to have a gun or a rifle in his truck go out and shoot him and hit him and neutralise him,” Mr Trump said.

“If he had not had a gun, instead of having 26 dead, you would have had hundreds more dead,” he added.

Trump, as usual ignores and misses the point, that if the shooter did not have a gun, the shooting in the church, and no shoot-out on the street would not have taken place!

The attacks appear to have been targeted on the pastor’s family, the shooter’s ex-wife’s family, and their friends!

I’m not sure “how many hundreds of them” were in the church!

Half of the 26 victims of the worst mass shooting in Texas history are children, officials say, as a portrait of a small town Texas church emerges.

The youngest of the dead is a one-year-old baby, and the oldest is a 77-year-old woman, officials have said.

Twenty more were wounded, 10 were in a critical condition. Authorities fear the death toll could rise.

According to US media, the elderly ex-grandmother-in-law of the gunman is among the dead.

The identities of those killed are not yet being officially released but the names of some of those gunned down are emerging. (see link)

  • Perhaps this adds light to the issue of the failure to regulate guns, and prevent them from getting into the hands of people known to be a danger!

The gunman who killed 26 churchgoers in Texas fled from a mental health clinic in 2012, according to a police report.

El Paso officers who detained Devin Kelley five years ago were told he was “a danger to himself and others”.

Kelley had been sent to the hospital after he was court-martialled for assaulting his ex-wife and stepson during a stint in the US Air Force.

He was “attempting to carry out death threats” against “his military chain of command”, the report states.

Officials say the assault charge should have legally barred him from owning guns.

El Paso police arrested Kelley at a bus terminal in downtown El Paso in June 2012, according to a police report first reported by KPRC in Houston.

Officers wrote that Kelley had fled Peak Behavioral Health Services in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, about 100 miles (160km) away.

The person who reported him missing from the facility told police Kelley “suffered from mental disorders”.

Kelley “had already been caught sneaking firearms onto Holloman Air Force Base”, the report adds.

Later that year, Kelley pleaded guilty in a military court to repeatedly assaulting his wife and toddler stepson.

He was sentenced to one year in a US Navy prison.

According to the Houston Chronicle newspaper, the 26-year-old killer had shown up at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs with his children for an annual fall festival five days before the shooting.

A friend of Kelley’s former mother-in-law Michelle Shields, who officials believe he was targeting on Sunday, said she was glad to see him at last week’s event with her grandchildren following past family troubles.

“They thought, ‘oh this is good. This is progress,'” said the woman.

Armed with an assault rifle and 450 rounds of ammunition, the gunman began shooting into the small wooden building from outside.

  • “Badge authority” as a means of verifying information, seems prevalent among the brain-addled sheepish followers of ideologies and conspiracy theories!

(the mythological Democrat science, Lefty science, Republican science etc.)

Facebook and Google promote politicized fake news about Las Vegas shooter

The spread of rightwing blogs, claiming the shooter was an anti-Trump liberal, on to mainstream platforms is the latest example of hyper-partisan trolling after a tragedy

Binkowski noted that the online debates about possible political affiliations of the suspect distract from meaningful policy discussions about gun control.

“People would rather debate whether the mass shooter is a Republican or Democrat … than address structural issues,” she said.

  • It really is a poor service, when the mainstream media picks up false news stories from from fake news blogs!

Google promoted Texas gunman fake tweets

The search engine displayed a carousel of posts “popular on Twitter” that contained false stories that Kelley was a Muslim and a left-wing extremist.

However, this time it displayed false tweets in its search results suggesting Kelley was a member of a pro-Bernie Sanders group, that he had converted to Islam and that he was a “radical alt-left” activist.

But some people criticised Google for keeping the function on its search results before it was fixed.

“Just kill the feature until it works,” said journalist Peter Bright.

  • Ah! The “benefits” of using tribalist religious faith-thinking beliefs, to “amicably and ethically” settle differences and disputes! 🙂

The outbreak of street violence between majority Sinhalese Buddhists and minority Muslims started after an incident involving a Muslim woman and a motorbike driven by a Buddhist man.

A police spokesman said people were arrested after “spreading false messages and rumours on social media” that contributed to the escalation in violence.

Riot police and army troops have been deployed in southern Sri Lanka following an outbreak of violence between Buddhists and Muslims, and a curfew has been imposed for the second night running.

Nineteen people were arrested when clashes erupted in Galle province, after a traffic accident.

Homes and businesses were attacked and several properties damaged.

Authorities say the sectarian violence has now been brought under control.

“Additional police battalions, the police Special Task Force, the anti-riot squad and the military were called in last night to bring the situation under control,” Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka said in a statement.

He also warned people not to stir up sectarian hatred on social media.

MP Manusha Nanyakkara told the BBC that 10 vehicles were destroyed, the majority of which were owned by Muslims, and 62 homes and businesses were attacked.

  • I see the next terrorist attack has turned up in New York.
As with the London Underground train incident, the attacker seems to have used a poorly constructed home-made device, rather than accessing the plentiful supply of guns in the USA.

A man is being held after an attempted terror attack at America’s biggest and busiest bus terminal, officials say.

“Terrorists won’t win. We are New Yorkers,” said Mayor Bill De Blasio said after a blast in an underpass at the Port Authority terminal on Monday.

The suspect was wounded. Fire officials say four people were injured, but none is in danger.

US media say the man had a pipe bomb strapped to his body when it detonated at the start of the morning rush hour.

Mr De Blasio said the suspect was believed to have acted alone.

A photo circulating on social media shows a man, said to be the suspect, lying on the ground with his clothes ripped and lacerations on his upper body.

The Port Authority Bus Terminal serves more than 65 million people a year.

There are also reports that the bomb fortunately detonated prematurely in a tunnel, limiting the extent of the blast, and the number of people involved.

The motivation behind the attack has yet to be made clear.
