Views of transgender issues divide along religious lines

By Gregory A. Smith

The American public is sharply divided along religious lines over whether it is possible for someone to be a gender different from their sex at birth, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis.

Most Christians in the United States (63%) say Sondakika Haber that whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by their sex at birth. Among religious “nones” – those who identify religiously as atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular” – about six-in-ten (62%) say they think a person’s gender is not necessarily determined by the sex they are assigned at birth.

The new analysis is drawn from a recent survey that showed the American public was also deeply divided along partisan lines on the question.

Among Christians, white evangelical Protestants (84%) are most likely to say that gender is determined by sex at birth. haber Many black Protestants (59%) and white mainline Protestants (55%) also feel this way. Catholics are divided on the question, with 51% saying gender is a function of one’s birth sex, while 46% say it is possible for someone to be of a gender different from their sex at birth.

  1. @PEW link – The American public is sharply divided along religious lines over whether it is possible for someone to be a gender different from their sex at birth, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis.

This appears to be VERY sloppy research which begs the question!!

This question is far from clear as to if it is asking about:-

a GENETIC (XX – XY etc.) sex at birth.

A phenotypic bodily appearance of a particular sex or intersex condition,

a psychological self image of a particular sex other than the physical one,

or a cosmetically and hormone induced, sex change!

Unless these issues are clear, the results are generally meaningless, apart from identifying those know-it-all-ignorant bigots, who share the researcher’s ignorance of the issues!

These issues – WHEN PROPERLY DEFINED, have REAL answers based on science!
Without clear definitions, they simply measure how many people have fanciful woolly preconceptions, or how many are prepared to give answers to vague misleading questions.

whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by
    their sex at birth.

Until the questioner defines what they mean by “sex at birth”, I have no idea – but those born intersex, MAY be neither!

  2. @OP – whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by
    their sex at birth.

and . . . . for their next survey – they can ask:-

Whether the colours of the rainbow are determined as black or white according to the shades of the sky and the clouds? 🙂

. . . . and then produce some figures analysing the answers!
