The complicated history of ‘In God We Trust’ and other examples Trump gives of American religion

In his address to the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday morning, President Trump steered clear of policy and stuck instead to a spiritual theme: “America is a nation of believers,” he said.

Every president since Dwight D. Eisenhower has addressed the annual prayer breakfast, which is organized by Christians with the goal of preaching unity in faith across political divides.

At his first address to the breakfast last year, Trump made a policy promise — he said he would “totally destroy” the Johnson Amendment that bans churches from endorsing political candidates, a promise he has partially fulfilled by executive order but Congress failed to carry out through legislation. He joked, too, about praying for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s TV ratings.

This year, Trump struck a different tone. His theme was the heroism of everyday Americans, including military and police, teachers, even a 9-year-old with a serious illness. Trump repeatedly emphasized evidence that that American spirit is based in religion.

  • It is clearly a measure of Trump’s scant intellect, and the ease with which his narcissistic personality can be manipulated, that it only took one encounter with a blonde bimbo televangelist for this man who has spent his whole life defying just about every convention of christian morality to become the white evangelist movement’s willing lapdog.

Or, from a female point of view ; what won’t a guy say to get his hands on the blonde bimbo? Especially one who shows all signs of being a lying psychopath.

He lies in every sentence, why wouldn’t he lie straight faced to the evangelicals and the entire country about his devotion to God? The bimbo was a passing fancy offering immediate gratification. The aggressive brainwashed evangelicals are truly the long con with the huge payoff.

It seems that the Trump (non-)Administration, is also trusting in God to provide National Security to protect classified information!

A US spy chief has warned that presidential aides with interim security clearances should have “limited” access to secret information.

US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said the clearance process was “broken” and needs to be reformed.

He was responding to a question about former White House aide Rob Porter, who allegedly beat his wife, and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Mr Kushner reportedly has only interim security clearance, like Mr Porter.

Mr Coats was one of several spymasters who gave evidence on Tuesday to the Senate Intelligence Committee about global threats facing the US.

Those (despised) expert professionals, just keep producing evidence of Trump’s reckless bumbling incompetence, and nepotism!

  • @LaurieB.
Exactly. Evangelicals need to look again at:
Daniel 8:23-27 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. 27 And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.

  • Looking at the OP image:- those with short memories, blissfully watching and applauding Trupoid deregulation, should be reminded of 2008, when those “trusting in gods” to run the economy, in place of effective banking regulation, inflicted the “rewards” from those reckless actions on everyone! (apart from a few sub-prime salesmen, short-sellers and speculators!)
