A Christian Nationalist Blitz

May 29, 2018

By Katherine Stewart

America’s Christian nationalists have a new plan for advancing their legislative goals in state capitols across the country. Its stated aim is to promote “religious freedom.” Not shy, they call it “Project Blitz.”

“Blitz” accurately describes the spirit of the enterprise, but the mission has little to do with what most Americans would call religious freedom. This is just the latest attempt by religious extremists to use the coercive powers of government to secure a privileged position in society for their version of Christianity.

The idea behind Project Blitz is to overwhelm state legislatures with bills based on centrally manufactured legislation. “It’s kind of like whack-a-mole for the other side; it’ll drive ‘em crazy that they’ll have to divide their resources out in opposing this,” David Barton, the Christian nationalist historian and one of four members of Project Blitz’s “steering team,” said in a conference call with state legislators from around the country that was later made public.

According to research provided by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, more than 70 bills before state legislatures appear to be based on Project Blitz templates or have similar objectives. Some of the bills are progressing rapidly. An Oklahoma measure, which has passed the legislature and is awaiting the governor’s signature, allows adoption and foster care agencies to discriminate on the basis of their own religious beliefs. Others, such as a Minnesota bill that would allow public schools to post “In God We Trust” signs on their walls, have provoked hostile debates in local and national media, which is in many cases the point of the exercise.

Some of the bills are progressing rapidly.

Templates, are only to be expected to facilitate legislation by ignorant legal duffer sheeples, who have no concept altruistic morality or equal rights for all under secular law!

Their concept of “morality” is a privileged theocracy – as dictated by their own religious leaders, and lapped up by uneducated sheeple-herds who are told their servility entitles them to superior status and preferential treatment over other citizens!

An Oklahoma measure, which has passed the legislature and is awaiting the governor’s signature,
allows adoption and foster care agencies to discriminate on the basis of their own religious beliefs.

Those children in need of adoption, really really really, need to be assured of systematic indoctrination into the “RIGHT” religious views, and kept away from those rational thinking skills which would make them realise just how ignorant and stupid the religious leaders foisted upon them, really are! 🙂

  • I see that another of Trump’s appointed reactionary incompetents, is promoting right-wing nuttery abroad as well as in the USA!

Perhaps he is so history-illiterate, that he does not know about the extreme right of the past in Germany” – or perhaps he is just another “alternative facts” Trumpoid, who does not care! !

Richard Grenell, US envoy to Germany, wants to ’empower’ Europe’s right

Richard Grenell, who was appointed by President Donald Trump last year, made the highly unusual comments for a diplomat to right-wing Breitbart News.

I think that choice of media makes a point in itself!

“I think there is a groundswell of conservative policies that are taking hold because of the failed policies of the left,” he said.

Mr Grenell’s comments follow several other controversial remarks by Trump-appointed diplomats.

    Chris Murphy -@ChrisMurphyCT

When I raised concerns to Grenell about politicizing this post,
he personally assured me that once he became Ambassador
he would stay out of politics.
    This interview is awful -
    Ambassadors aren't supposed to "empower"
    any political party overseas.

Mr Grenell said he had been contacted by people throughout Europe about a conservative “resurgence”.

It sounds as if – following in Trump’s footsteps, he talks to people who tell him what he likes to hear, while disparaging factual reports in the respectable media!

MMmmmm – Contacting people like this “chicken-shit-for-brains” far right leader???

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-44354559

There is outrage across the political spectrum in Germany over a far-right leader’s description of the 12-year Nazi dictatorship as “just bird poo”.

Alternative for Germany (AfD) co-leader Alexander Gauland made the remark in an address to the party’s youth wing.

Politicians in the ruling coalition and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier accused Mr Gauland of trying to shrug off the Nazi atrocities.

The AfD is Germany’s main opposition party, with 94 seats in parliament.

Mr Gauland, 77, said on Saturday: “Hitler and the Nazis are just bird poo in over 1,000 years of successful German history.”

I seem to recall a rather nutty Kaiser two decades earlier!

The general secretary of Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, tweeted (in German): “50 million war victims, the Holocaust and total war are just ‘bird poo’ for the AfD and Gauland!
That’s what the party really looks like behind its mask of respectability.”

The more educated and astute, might have noticed that various countries are investigating illegal foreign sponsorship and interference in political campaigns: – with some notable prosecutions!

Perhaps Germany should expel this US ambassador who is exercising his “fake diplomatic skills”!

  • I’m sorry to say that Steve Bannon, vector of evil, is is currently in Europe to infect all of you there with his vile fascism. Fareed Zacharia aired his interview with Bannon on his CNN show yesterday, Sunday morning. Bannon was apparently in Italy at the time of the taping.

Alan, I had asked you what was going wrong in Italy a few days ago and you posted some quotes to indicate that it was in a mess and now after watching Bannon operate in Italy to support the new political line up there, I think we have good reason to be worried about the direction they are headed. This can NOT be good.

There are videos on youtube of that interview and I’ll post this one of Bannon on Euronews video. I couldn’t watch the whole Fareed Zacharia interview because Bannon is repulsive and I hate his voice and his snake-like evasions and non-truths and outright lies. I also hate to look at him which is mostly due to the fact that he is a frightening specter of a worldview that I despise. Other unattractive men who stand for principles of humanism and the Enlightenment don’t elicit this revulsion in me.

Any-who, here’s the video where Bannon starts out with a bold face lie about his intentions toward you all over there. Eye-roll. I shouldn’t post a video that I haven’t watched because who knows? Maybe at the end of it Bannon shows some actual compassion for refugees, poverty stricken and downtrodden of this world. ! I mean, it’s not completely impossible. Life is just an overwhelming presentation of probability equations. Some P values have more zeros in them than others do. What can I tell ya? ~shrug~

  • @#2 – Richard Grenell, US envoy to Germany, wants to ’empower’ Europe’s right

Like most Trump appointments, he is the worst candidate for this context, and will probably need to hide behind diplomatic immunity to stay out of a German jail!

    https://www.vox.com/world/2017/8/16/16152088/nazi-swastikas-germany-charlottesville

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed horror at the racist marches that roiled Charlottesville, Virginia, this past weekend. “It is racist, far-right violence, and clear, forceful action must be taken against it, regardless of where in the world it happens,” she said on German television Monday.

She might have added that such a thing wouldn’t have happened in today’s Germany — because it’s illegal.

While America protects the right of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and other hate groups to hold public rallies and express their views openly, Germany has strict laws banning Nazi symbols and what’s called Volksverhetzung — incitement of the people, or hate speech. Like more than a dozen European countries, Germany also has a law criminalizing Holocaust denial.

And while Confederate statues can be found in many American cities south of the Mason-Dixon Line, there are no statues of Adolf Hitler or Joseph Goebbels gracing public squares in Berlin, let alone Nazi flags or other Nazi art. Public Nazi imagery was long ago destroyed, and swastikas were long since knocked off the walls of Nazi-era buildings.

The terms “Nationalist” and “BLITZ” are well understood in Europe!

Italy has been Europe’s basket case of coalition politics for decades – riddled with waffling compromises, ineffective governments, and infested with Vatican influences, corruption, and the mafia!
