Let’s Talk Climate on Earth Day

Apr 24, 2019

Climate change… We hear about it, but it can be complicated, overwhelming, alarming and sometimes divisive. This Earth Month, join Blair Lee, author of The Science of Climate Change: A Hands-On Course & trained Climate Reality Leader will share basic information about the science and answer questions such as: “Is it really happening?” “How do we know?” “Must we…, will we…, can we change?” We will also discuss how to create a climate action plan for shrinking your carbon footprint as a way to help combat global warming and climate change.

Blair Lee M.S. is the founder of Secular Eclectic Academic Homeschoolers and author of The Science of Climate Change: A Hands-On Course and for the critically acclaimed R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey Series. Blair has been handcrafting the education of her non-linear thinker for over 11 years.

  • This webinar was extremely interesting and engaging. It demonstrated in a helpful way what climate change is, its causes (the burning of fossil fuels, emissions of greenhouse gases), its consequences (the spreading of infectious diseases, the extinction of a lot of plant and animal species), and what we can do to solve this huge problem, such as turn off lights, use reusable water bottles, use more alternative energy sources, and consume less meat. In addition, Ms. Blair clarified the difference between weather and climate(weather is over a short period of time, and climate is over a long period of time). It also gave me a lot of hope for our future when I was presented with countries like Chile who are doing all they can to turn to other renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy. I have always been a firm believer in climate change, but this webinar completely convinced me that it is in fact happening, because of the logical science and facts presented.

Now I would like to talk about my personal impressions. At the beginning of the webinar, as I saw the staggering numbers, the fact that Florida would soon be submerged underwater, and the pictures of the bomb cyclones, I felt very depressed about this situation. I felt like there was very little hope left for saving our planet because no one, including the government, was doing anything about it. However, towards the end of the webinar, I realized that, in fact, we can do something about this problem because there are a lot of solutions and a lot of ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. Because of this webinar, I also felt even more moved about the numerous wildfires happening in California, which are caused by increasing temperatures. As I saw the pictures, my mind was even more convinced that the problem must be solved. Finally, I would like to commend the activists who are suing the government for ignoring climate change. I strongly agree that failing to secure a safe future for our generation is a complete violation of our constitutional rights, and they inspired me to make a difference.

Thank you to Ms. Blair for making this webinar. You convinced me that, if we have enough willpower,  we can solve climate change.
