Robert Jeffress: We Allowed Atheists and Infidels to “Pervert Our Constitution”

Jul 16, 2020

By Beth Stoneburner

Not only is America a Christian country, but the Constitution has been perverted by infidels and atheists, according to MAGA cultist and Trump sycophant Pastor Robert Jeffress.

He made the comments on his “Pathway to Victory” broadcast during a series of episodes earlier this month promoting the Christian Nation myth. In the excerpt below, he was complaining about Supreme Court decisions that removed mandatory Bible readings from public schools.

And here’s the question: What has changed? What has changed? In these 150 years, has the Constitution changed and nobody told us? Is that what happened? Of course not. What has happened is we have allowed the secularists, the humanists, the atheists, the infidels, to pervert our Constitution into something our Founding Fathers never intended. And it is time for Americans to stand up and say ‘Enough! We’re not going to allow this in our Christian country anymore.’ It is time to put an end to this.

On the contrary, Mr Jeffress is permitted under the U.S. Constitution to make such statements in public, regardless of their textual and historical inaccuracies (or has he not accepted the validity of the First Amendment?). To adhere to the same Constitution, he has to accord all his fellow U.S. citizens the same freedom of speech, regardless of how they may disagree with him. Needless to say, he has done his reputation no good by making it plain that he has not read that Constitution and is unfamiliar with any genuine (i.e. fact-based) historical accounts of the Founding Fathers, whom he seems to revere. Perhaps he would not revere them if he knew more about them, or perhaps he would then change his mind …. This is yet another case of how ignorance, induced by dogmatic religion, is tearing U.S. society apart.

Ignorance, induced by dogma of any kind, never ends well.

Recently, Baghdad Barbie told the press that “Science should not stand in the way of this [all kids attending school every day]…”

Astoundingly arrogant! This Republican denial of science is why we lead the planet in coronavirus infections.

  • @OP ; he was complaining about Supreme Court decisions that removed “mandatory” Bible readings from public schools.

Ah!  But we need to understand that as  a troo believer, wearing his  “faith interpretation blinkers” and as a dedicated  Humpty-Dumptyist with a genuine god-delusion endorsement of his personal views, along with  a theological qualification in Dunning-Kruger confidence, he knows FAAARR better than  those “so called judges” his Trumpsiah has told him about!

Humpty Dumptyism –  The practice of insisting that a word means whatever one wishes it to.

Yep!  Trumpoids, “interpret the constitution” to Make America GRATE again!

“Lubricating the wheels of government with their True Grit”!
