I despair for America. In Australia, if a person like Trump ran for political office, he would be treated with ridicule not just by the media, but by most of the Australian population. He would get 1-2% of the vote. What disturbs me is that Trump can have so much support from Americans, not only to get the nomination. but to now be only a…[Read more]

Religion, like sex, should be practiced by consenting adults in private and no longer has a role in the town square.

I got taught this trick in primary school. In a darkened room, with a reading lamp, open a book to a picture. Stare at the picture for 30 seconds, then look up from the book and look around the room. A Negative of that picture will appear where ever you look. These are the ghosts people have seen over history.

The rods and cones in your…[Read more]

Decisions should be made on a rational assessment of the prevailing evidence, viewed through the prism of morality and ethics.

    That should do it.

In another forum I asked a religious zealot who or what country performs the most abortions on the planet over history. After some fluffing around with the Zealot naming all the usual communist suspects, I informed him (Its always a HIM) it was god. As Alan4D said above, around 70% of fertilized eggs are spontaneously aborted in the first twelve…[Read more]

    @Melvin

Both parties are committed to a narrow centrist portion of the spectrum where a strong status quo consensus prevents large shifts in tax policy.

I don’t see this looking in from Australia. I see the two sides separating like a continental drift. I don’t see a Bell Curve of political opinion, I see a dumbbell curve. American politics…[Read more]

An ideology TELLS you what to think.

Evidence doesn’t care what you think.

I know this is only Social Media, but this description of a Late Term Abortion in the USA with reference to the political debate I found compelling.

***I had one dead twin. The other had severe Spina Bifida. It was so bad that his brain had developed outside his head, and his spine was open clear to the lumbar level. There was ZERO hope, and no…[Read more]

Forget Bitcoin or the Pound Sterling / US Dollar exchange rate. There’s a new currency in town that can trade with all the majors. Grand Children. Every decision you make, every breath you take, determines whether you are killing your grand children or saving them. On a scale from -10 to +10, your decisions are measured. The cost of those…[Read more]

We’ve been in training for 5 years now. The Australian National No Religion Team is looking forward to the Grand Final next Tuesday night. Last Census, we came a close second to the Catholics, but we think we’re in with a good chance of overturning this result, and winning the Flag. We’ve still got a long way to go though if we are going to…[Read more]

    Well done Razie.

On a related subject I’ve organized a class action on behalf of the Porcine species. They are sick of being seen as evil and unclean. They want to be eaten along with the rest of the domestic livestock of the planet. They believe they’ve been the subject of bigoted animalism, and claim their rights to equality with all the…[Read more]

As long as religion sticks to the “why” questions (morality and so on)

I think they’ve on shaky ground even with this. The best they’ve got is the Golden Rule. Do unto others etc. But as Bertrand Russell observed. “What if I don’t like what you are doing unto me.” This Golden Rule is a licence for the theist to dec…[Read more]

There is a subset of the species Homo Sapiens, for whom the gene that controls the rational linking of Cause with Effect, fails. There are very good evolutionary reasons why we constantly make Cause / Effect conclusions which overall, have brought us to the civilization (Mmmm) we see around us today, but now have become a flea on the elephants…[Read more]

A sad epitaph for the species Homo Sapiens

Here lies the most intelligent life form ever to exist in the universe, that chose to commit voluntary self inflicted preventable mass extinction for greed.

My perception is that many, many, Australian politicians are very free about flaunting and promoting their religion in power – is that a factual perception?

There is a solid religious conservative minority in Australia that exerts political power far above their n…[Read more]

As a general observation. I see efforts to develop carbon capture and storage so that fossil fuels can continue to be used as the last desperate death rattles of a dying industry. Interesting that Peabody Energy has filed for bankruptcy in America and the CEO of Exxon Mobil has gone on record admitting the burning fossil fuels causes climate…[Read more]
