    Comrade Rimmer….
    Insanity and then some!

    So you have the 3 gene editing techniques as described. Near as far as I can tell, the company using ZFN technology has been making steady improvements. It is the oldest of the three technologies. Now, it depends on who you talk with as to which is the better technology since it’s such an important and…[Read more]

    Just have to point out here that the media is hung up on CRISPR. I suggest somebody in the media, as well as other distinguished folks that comment here look into ZFNs, (Zinc Finger Nuclease). I’ve been following a company that is really taking this technology to the next stage. It’s actually more precise than Crispr with less off-target splices.

    @Comrade Rimmer….
    It’s a good observation, but only in that the rampant corporatism and infotainment have moved the goal line for the left to the center of the field.

    @Peacepecan…
    I don’t accept the notion of free will; therefore, people act within a very tight framework of possible responses. When talking freedom it’s based on the presupposition that people are acting of their own volition, (capacity). Consciousness does an excellent job at making people feel like they are individuals acting out their will.

    I see freedom as illusory; while liberty is something that cannot be achieved as an individual unless the same state exists for all others.

    Obama will go down in American history as one of the most successful centrists of his time. I like some of the things he’s done and I detest others. The fact that he, corporatism in general, and an empty-headed republican party have paved the way for Hillary Clinton is a testament to centrism everywhere. As far as space travel and Mars, we need to…[Read more]

    @ Alan4….
    Agreed; however I would also say that I’m still waiting for someone, like EMusk to build a near fully self-sustaining city under the sea. Most non-scientific types seem to not understand the extreme hazards of space travel, much less the potential toxicity of Mars itself. A city under the ocean is a goal much more achievable. It also…[Read more]

    I saw Shawn Otto recently talking about his book. I’m hoping to read it soon. I’ve connected with him on LinkedIn. His sciencedebate.org organization I’ve followed for years. I must admit, the answers the politicians have all given are usually disappointing. I would like to one day see a science debate take place with actual scientists asking the…[Read more]

    Anyone care to speculate about the limits of what is observable? I’m positing that if you look progressively farther, you’ll see more galaxies come into view. What if there is no end to time space/time. Even though we trace everything back to a big bang, if it goes space/time forever, isn’t it a default formula for, dare I say it Hoyle’s steady…[Read more]

    As an American I don’t know what is more embarrassing, Trump or those who support him. It’s just sickening to see this nonsense. I’m no Clinton fan mind you, but she has to win! Period. End-of-story.
