Alf1200 – “Bumbly McStumblefuck” is my favorite Trump descriptor. Also, I have a sister and many other family members in the Houston area – Tomball, The Woodlands, Katy, Cypress. Have not heard from them since Saturday. It’s no comfort to me that we don’t get hurricanes here in Washington. And what will happen to us in the Cascadia quake that…[Read more]

Hurricane Katrina exploded to monster Category 5 over the hot water of the Gulf, one of the largest and strongest storms ever recorded in the Gulf of Mexico. It weakened to a strong Cat 3 just before landfall. It had the third lowest barometric pressure in its eye after Hurricane Camille (another devastating killer) and the Labor Day Storm of…[Read more]

I’m lucky enough to live in an area that’s in the path of totality; and this eclipse happens to occur on my daughter’s birthday as well. She’s laughing it up telling superstitious coworkers and friends that it must mean she’s super-special. We’re planning a big party for the event! I have been lucky – I also lived in an area that was in the…[Read more]

Alf – Me too. How do they know they’re detecting ghosts with those meters? As far as I know, the only thing an EMF meter detects is electromagnetic fields. And those cameras only detect infrared radiation (heat). If the disembodied consciousness of a dead brain can create EM fields and temperature changes, as well as EVPs on recording…[Read more]

I want them to explain why it’s nighttime in Beijing while it’s broad daylight in New York, and why we have seasons, and why the moon has phases and why we have solar and lunar eclipses, and where the sun goes when it sets, and why, if you sail or fly in one direction long enough, you’ll end up back where you started, without ever passing the same…[Read more]

Alf – I know, right? Terrifying. If I had been just slightly more gullible and less quick to get over my startled moment, why, I might have had the local ghost hunters in there that very evening checking out my dining room chairs with their EMF meters and contacting the spirit of my pots and pans!

Phil, I wrote a comment about how I had read Joe Nickell’s book, “The Science of Ghosts” and thought that it was somewhat disappointing because he seemed quick to ascribe all of the incidents that people think are “paranormal” to a few stock causes that he seemed to use on every page, such as having a “fantasy-prone personality”. It struck me as…[Read more]

Wait a minute…why is that picture so wierdly cropped? Are they trying to make it look like Jupiter isn’t flat?!?

Seriously, though, what great photos. Can’t wait to see more!

Once I was coming out of our kitchen into our dining room at night. There was only one light on in the kitchen, and it was shining into the dining room. In one of the dining room chairs a black human-shaped figure was sitting, absolutely motionless. It was so real-looking I stopped, skin tingling, screamed for my husband…and the figure never…[Read more]

Jesus on a gibbet – this is the hill these idiots choose to die on – when we’ve got huge climate change problems, crumbling infrastructure, people with jobs that don’t allow them to afford housing or food, epidemic disease looming large. But oh, no; what’s most important – the only thing that will keep the world from ending and the sun from…[Read more]

As a woman who’s left a church and become an atheist, I have to say it was a long accumulation of simmering rage against the insult and injustice of the ingrained patriarchal attitudes toward women and children…and the final realization that all the centuries of misery and abuse have been based on nothing more than fantasy and fairytales.

    Done…[Read more]

Women who miscarry a wanted fetus do mourn for the lost future the fetus represented, and it’s already acceptable and legal for women and their families to memorialize the fetus in whatever way helps with the grief, but it’s ridiculous to make laws forcing them to do so. Of course this law is aimed at guilting women who abort deliberately, making…[Read more]

I have very vivid dreams nearly every night, and I almost always remember my dreams in detail. Sometimes the atmosphere or mood of a dream colors my whole waking day. I also sometimes realize I am dreaming, and can change the details around me by thinking things like, “Hmm – this house is awesome, but I’d rather have lighter wood in the…[Read more]

I live in the area expected to get the next 9.0 megaquake any time now – the Pacific Northwest. Western Washington state is also riddled with surface faults that have generated quakes within the last few hundred years that have lifted parts of the Puget Sound shoreline 20 feet and dropped entire forests to the bottom of Lake Washington. We live…[Read more]

In the state of Washington, more than 50% of all hospitals are now owned and operated by religious organizations, mostly Catholic. In the county where I live, the only hospital accessible to the public (there is a Naval hospital that serves only Navy personnel and their dependents) is now owned by the Franciscans. The only non-Catholic hospitals…[Read more]
